2002 Hyundai Santa Fe Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jul 27, 2011

I have a 2002 Santa Fe AWD (2.7L) with 302K KM. Two weeks ago, I noticed on two occasions that the transmission did not downshift as smoothly as before from 3rd to 2nd (auto trans) as I approached a stop sign/light. Last week, we noticed that it did the same thing on maybe 6-8 occasions (earlier in the week and not later in the week). This week there have been no problems with the downshifting. Accelerating is fine. I took the vehicle into the dealer yesterday (since we will be going on a long road-trip / vacation next week, and the dealer not only told us that we needed a new transmission, but also a transfer case, a hanger bearing and a new engine. I don't know if they did a diagnostic or even if they took the vehicule out for a test drive. We will not be replacing the transmission or engine. Is there anything that we can do to prolong the life of the transmission or is there even a problem with the transmission? When we experienced the rough downshifting, the temperature was very warm with a high humidex (45 degrees C); could this be a factor? Thank you.

WHATS WRONG WITH MY 2002 Hyundai santa fe no issues and I driving and all the sudden it was like it shifted into neutral like nothing except park works """"HELP ME""""

First and foremost, and the obvious, check the transmission fluid. After that is noted to be full and in good condition see if there are any codes. Make note of the codes. Your vehicle has universal codes. So they can be decoded. When it does this, can you downshift and keep the vehicle moving. Very broad spectrum of possibilities.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is 4X2 or 4X4????? Please.

Hello! the 2002 Santa Fe has optional All Wheel Drive (AWD)...Which is permanent (can not be turned off)...If the option is not on your vehicle then it is Front Wheel Drive (FWD) only...The VIN # will tell you if the option is on your vehicle...

My 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe started leaking transmission fluid a few days ago at the rate of a few drops in about a 12 hour time period, after having been run. It comes out right under the front drivers sdie...

more then likely the torque converter/front pump seal is laking and is the most common leak in this trans, the cost to repair is about $500 as the transmission must come out.

My check engine light came on my 02 SantaFe, what can i do?

Have the codes read to find out the fault code that triggers the light. Go to a mechanic, or your local auto parts superstore and have them check it. Hope this helps.

2002 hyundai santa fe awd feels like transmission is slipping when stopping engine seems to jump

dear friend-i do not think you have a problem with your transmission, but i think we must have a look at the tps sensor.another thing to do is to connect to a hi scan and get some fault codes.

My '01 Santa Fe awd v-6 has a new transmission, now sometimes won

Bases on the limited info provided, most likely the ignition switch. If you list the symptoms you experience when it doesn't start it would be easier to diagnose your problem for example: does it crank? does the key turn and do nothing? etc. Hope this answers your question.
