This is a driveability issue chances are your computer control is trying to compensate for the problem. did you replace the fuel filter? if you have then it could be one of your sensors in the fuel circuit. either O2, IAC, or the TPS. has your check engine light come on? i would suggest trying a new fuel filter first. also make sure that the air filter is clean. a dirty filter will always make a car feel like it's low on power because a engine needs to breath. hope this helps you. please rate this solution. thanks

If you have dual fuel tanks there is usually another fuel filter on the frame under the drivers position under the truck. If this is the problem the truck will hesitate when you press on the gas pedal to pass someone.

How do i change the fuel filter?

First off check the fuel Injectors fuel filter and air filter as for the white smoke sounds like you're burning oil if you ran out of gas the sediment at the bottom of the tank goes in to you're fuel system

Replace fuel pump relay fuse pontiac 2001 montana

You could replace the fuel filter, because you sucked the sediment from your gas tank int the filter.

I ran out of gas and put gas in out of a gas jug the car started but is running rough and is worse when i push on the gas petal

you need 4 or 5 gallons gas to be on safe side.could be too late damage fuel pump.never run vechicle low on fuel.fuel pump needs gasoline to keep it cool and lubricated.add more gas see if engine run better.if not i would change fuel filter all sediment was disturb when you add gas to empty tank when you poured gas in fuel tank sediment break up stop up fuel filter.change fuel filter see if car run better if not more like fuel pump over heat and damaged pump motor bearing.

Ran out of gas driving down freeway, pulled over . put 4 gals gas in but still wont restart

Running it low and out of fuel may have killed the fuel pump.

When you first turn the key ON, listen for the fuel pump to run for about 2 seconds.
If it does not run it could be a bad pump, relay, ECM or the circuit. Knowing that it was ran out of gas I would bet on the pump being bad.

If it does run it may have a plugged filter from drawing up any sediment from the tank.

It starts up fine and runs ok for about 20 mins driving then it would lose the power then if alow to rest it would return

Check your inline fuel filter to see if it has picked up sediment from your gas tank. Often these filters will pick um some sediment which lays parallel to the fuel flow, allowing some gas to get through, then when you accelerate, the sediment gets packed against the out flow side and blocks fuel flow. When you let it set for a few minutes, then the sediment settles out and allows some fuel to flow again.

My car ran out of gas, ran normal the next day, but then next morning it wouldn't start. i' ve replaced the starter and it still won't start.

What usually happens when you run a tank empty is it picks up all the sediment the bottom of your tank and clogs a fuel filter. Try replacing the fuel filter.

Not starting ran out of gas, added gas and still not starting, can hear fuel pump running, smell gas at engine and exhaust.

Gas line filter may be dirty and clogged. Change it. There could be sediment or dirt in the tank that you drew up to the filter when you ran out of gas and it has built up and is blocking gas from getting into the engine.
