Question about 1990 Mercury Topaz
Car operated fine when I first bought it used, hesitated once in a while but no major problem, changed fuel filter then the hesitation stopped. Started a new job and left the car sit for two months then car would not start, would crank over and sputter but not hit, disconnected fuel line to fuel filter to check whether fuel pump was working, it worked fine, checked vaccum hoses, all were connected, some were weather worn but still good, changed the air filter and still didnt start, cranked but not firing so I changed plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, double checked the timing with both light and by taking out plug number one and making sure piston was in the proper position ( up and placed finger over plug hole and knew that piston was in proper position when finger was forced off hole by discharge of air as piston had reached top ).
Bought new battery and cleaned out the air intakes to fuel injection and cleaned out some carbon buildup in two vacum hoses that connected to exhaust system.
The vehicles cranks but does not fire, the starter works as does the voltage regulator, I am at a loss as to what to check next....
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know what to check next.
