Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10
I have a 1998 Chevy S-10 Highrider edition. The 4X4 abaility will not work. I have checked and replaced the vaccume lines all the way to the transfer case and changed the dash switch and it still will not work. When I unplug the battery then plug it back in it seems to work briefly, then will engage itself automatically when I am going down the road. Someone told me it could have something to do with the Body Control Module....what do you guys think? Thank you for your time
Remove the input moduale on the front diff and replace with new on 5 min fix common problem

The Body Control Module can be accessed with a scan tool, and any trouble codes pulled out.For every trouble code,no matter what the system, there is a diagnostic route to follow and locate the faulty component. If there are no trouble codes,i have seen the vacuum switch on the transfer case go bad and cause similar symptoms. It isnt all that expensive,i would order one new from a GM dealer. It is possible that it's a bad BCM,but all the other components have to be ruled functional before condemning the computer.Thats the basic diagnostic route for any code, any system. This includes ohms checking ALL the wires involved with the transfer case for continuity, including the electric motor on the transfer case.I think there is also one or two more switches or sensors on that transfer case that need to be verified good or bad.I know on Fords, there are sensors mounted on the doors as to whether the doors are open or closed, and this is controlled by the BCM,which also controls the transfer case. When a door sensor malfunctions,it screws up the 4x4 controller, which is also the BCM,causing 4x4 complaints/problems.So look for other symptoms in other systems that could possibly affect the BCM.Good luck.
