Estate tailgate glass release button

I am unable to release the glass in the tailgate on an x-type 2004 estate.
Any suggestions and which fuse is it as the car manual does not tall me.

I have the same problem. It has opened once (mysteriously) to reveal a very nice mechanism and a very useful access point but now I can't repaet the process. I occasionally alos have a problem that the unlock of the tailgate doesn't work.

I have exactly the same problem with my 2004 X type. The tailgate unexpectedly opened. When I shut it I found that I could no longer open it. When new the car went back to the garage twice with this problem but I was not the owner of the car at the time

To stop it from opening when you turn ign remove black cap from wiper swicth on the glass you see a circut strip cut the strip so it no longer works/ or replace £70 from Jagaur

I had the same problem with 2005 estate it used to open when starting the engine but does not unlock at all. The problem is the the sensor on the glass tailgate handle where the wiper arms is. It will cost around £70 from Jagaur themselves as I have just got one.

My x type diesel estate, (new 2009, 18,000 miles), just started opening the tailgate glass on switching the engine on. Fault traced to the remote. I now use the spare remote. Intriguing!

I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy that has a drop down tailgate (the glass lifts up and the tailgate drops down) I am unable to get the glass to release. When I push the release button on the dashboard you can hear...

You should be able to use the key to open the hatch and lift gate then simply take the panel off and check to see whats not working. I believe its a plastic tab in there that breaks.

I'm having a similar problem with a 1997 GMC Jimmy. The glass won't open on the liftgate. I tried what the manual says for emergency release but nothing works. Does anyone have a suggestion or a picture of...

After a while, the mechanism (actuator) that unlocks and releases the rear glass hatch in your Jimmy will eventually burn out. when it does, there is really no way to open the glass and lower the tailgate.
The only way to replace the burnt out actuator is to open the tailgate which you can't because the actuator is burnt out.

I've read stories that even the dealers don't know what to do, some have even cut up the back panel to reach the so-called manual release. Others said they pulled back the glued on carpet to search for it also.

Well if you don't want to hack up the tailgate panel or rip out your carpet, here's the easy way to open the glass:

You just pull back the interior tailgate panel right above the bump in the middle where the latch is. There are no screws or bolts in that area, you can safely pull it back about 2 inches. Then you'll have to stuck your finger in and push down the release bar.

When you get your finger back there, you should be able to feel for the part that need to be pushed down. When that part is pushed down, the glass has been unlocked.

When you get your finger back there, you should be able to feel for the part that need to be pushed down. When that part is pushed down, the glass has been unlocked.

Good luck and hope this helps, The actuator that needs to be replaced costs $58 from the dealer.
