Question about 1999 Suzuki Vitara

Vitara misfire 1995 1.6

There is no misfire when the engine is idling or revved at a standstill, however underload, say doing 50mph in top gear, the engine has a misfire.
I have changed the obvious, plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor arm.
Any ideas please; the Vitara has the G16 engine - 8 valve

    The wires are factory and the plugs are gapped correctly. I am about to swap the coil but i thought that a coil either worked or didn't?

    i have the a problem with my vitara 1995 it drives rough and will not keep up with a steady rev.

    Hi I have same problem ,P Reg Vitara (spanish built) missfires underload, cannot change coil pack as all part of the distributor 8 valve 1600 petrol, distributor has 4 leads off cap and a plug with 7 wires on the side. Can I take apart and look for coil pack inside Distributor ?.

    are your wires factory or after market? after market wires can break up while driving. are your spark plugs gapped correctly? Have you checked your coil?

You can try changing the coil pack and then recheck firing order of the wires to make sure they are in correct firing order. Suggest checking the wires first before spending money on the coil pack. Let me know how you make out.

G16 misfires there are over 50 causes,
do you have tools? and gauges, and meters?
overheated before, so not now right?
new engine, so compression over 170psi, ? at sealevel?
seems its not in USA< right>? (if not , the many parts are different that is why I ask country)
our 95s are called sidekicks and trackers.
im guessing you are in canada posting to a USA forum?
jerking and cutting out. when?
hot engine cold engine, or both????
idling in park (is it AT? trans?)
idling in drive.? misfires,. at all times.
driving in gear,? only.
cruising, only misfire?
does it misfire, accelerating or wide open throttle. only?
only up hills , only in some gears?, only in turns,
ECU operates in many modes, (as above) and these facts aid diagnosis big time.
or is jerking and cutting out not the engine, but the 4 speed trans doing that. as any AT sure can do. (gear, flare ,gear ,repeats)

my guess, is battery is 13.3 to 15vdc running.
that it's bad spark got new cap,rotor wires and spark plugs.?
old 21 year factory HV wires are helpless, get some BOSCH mag wires, on this G16, best there is for this weak spark engine.

did you gap the stock class plugs at .028" or leave them at NGK .045"
which is wrong, dead wrong. are the plugs OEM plugs stated in the NGK catalog, free to read online? or what ever brand you use?
Did you time the cam right.? not using the false markes on cam cog?
did you then after that, time the distributor to 5deg. btdc or as your book states? using the timing freeze jumper and the timing light?
some are 5deg others are 8. degrees. depends on state or country.
if i knew all ways it misfires, id be more savvy but dont.

id pull all 4 sparks out.
1: color, is tan? ok,.
2: coal black.?
3: black oil soaked.?
4: fuel soaked. even dripping , injector stuck open. on 1?
5: green antifreeze soaked.
6: damaged.
1 bad or all 4 or what, this is called READing the spark tips
and is a HUGE CLUE.

Stalls when put in gear after warming up.


sometimes the computer gets wiped clean and it has memory on how to idle, memorizes how the transmission shifts when you drive.. when all that is lost it can take a few days to relearn.. I found that I had luck spraying fuel injection cleaner into the throttle body and revving engine enough so it didn't shut off... and then I would drive fairly hard up hills etc.. and usually problem would correct itself

Losing power stalls


93 vit ,.with what engine? there are 5 or 6 used world wide
and what country, some of these are JDM cars, with no smog parts.
tell that it does good and wrong,
no transmission stated or engine 3 tranny sold and more engines.
my wild guess. is your tranny slips?
is is this a bad idle post. idle controls are out of control?
my guess 2 is its a Manual 5speed stick transmission?
guess 3 its not a USA or Canada Vitara. but where>?

ok its IDLE surge. ( the ecu will do that if fuel mix is lean)
with lean fuel mix engine power is very weak and idle is impossible to
control , by you or the ECU.
Guess 4 , the Engine is G16 engine.
but what type class is it. 8v, 16v, EFI, or carb.

really have.

1995 geo tracker sputters and stalls and wont idle


need more input. (8valve or 16valve engine , which option?)
black top engine , or silver 16)?
does it fail, cold or hot engine or both?
does it have full power from engine , at all speeds and loads (hills)?
and wide open throttle power.?
ever do the 60k tune up, not just a fuel filter?

how old is the fuel?
the pump/reg holds 34-43 psi.at all times...running.
sputter, from too low RPM ? below 800
or idle fast, but sputters at 800 and more?
if the latter, that is called misfire.
if the former that is lost of idle controls.
need to now which engine. because the are worlds apart.
EFI wise !

we dont guess, we do about 5 tests and bingo....

Have a 1995 e250 with overdrive when should i turn on and off over drive


It has always been my belief that an overdrive shoud not be used under 50mph. Sure the engine will pull it but it puts a awful load on small gears that are not meant to take it. So: on when over 50mph; off when under 50mph.

99 vitara misfire?


check for codes, p0300 is multiple cylinder misfire, p0301-p0304 is for cylinder 1 through 4, could be bad plug or coil, try switching and see if problem moves to different cylinder
