Question about 2006 Jaguar XJ8

1 Answer

1998 jaguar xj8 overheating.

My 1998 xj8 is over heating. The fans work with the a/c on but won't come on when the temp is high. I tried to find the fan s/w but I don't see it on the engine. Is it on the radiator? I wanted to check it for power.

Yeah, mine is 99. Got new water pump after evryone said it was that, but nothing wrong with original one. Suspect fans not staying on long enough

The early XJ8s were designed to operate as you describe, only kicking the fans in with the AC which is fine when the cars warming up (in fact it helps the car warm up faster & use less fuel), however, Jaguar realised in some climates this was causing overheating, later ones (99my on) operate constantly with the ignition on at slow speed & speed up if it detects it needs to.

This is a complex 2 relay system with alot of wiring that goes into the ECU & cant easily be retrofitted to your one.

I`d advise you to take the car to a good auto electrician & ask him to fit a manual switch on the dash with a relay to the fans so you can turn it on manually when its warmed up (if he can fit a slow speed relay with a resistor as well as a full power one, all the better, as you dont want to over cool either).

I`d also advise you to get the thermostat changed every year & the water pump to be upgraded to the current spec one, as these are both known issues that occur & also cause overheating.

Best of luck!

Restricted perfomance dash message

this warning can be flagged by lots of reasons you really need to get the fault codes out of the engine control module but the common causes i have found after working on these cars for a few years are air leaks after the mass air flow sensor, sticking throttle butterfly in the throttle body, the throttle itself, lamda sensors, and knock sensors, and because the temp gauge does not give you a true temp reading the engine could be overheating the clue to that is the rad fan always running

1998 jaguar xj8 cooling fan not working, cooling fan not coming on causing jag to run hot after idling approx 30 min

Delbert, Not real familiar with jag. Check all cooling system fan fuses and relays. Could be a bad fan temp. sensor. Have a good Tech. scan for codes, diagnose and estimate repair. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, 2nd link has some good info. Good luck

Overheating

Your overheating problems can have several possible causes.
1) Airlock in heating system - solution - bleed air from cooling system.
2) Radiator blocked - solution - drain and flush radiator
3) Failed waterpump - solution - fit new waterpump
4) Engine thermostat stuck in closed position - solution - fit new thermostat
5) Electric cooling fan (if fitted) failing to operate - solution - check fan, fan operating switch, all wiring and connectors
6) Not enough coolant in system - solution - check and top up to required level. Also check all hoses for sign of leakage.
7) Faulty temperature gauge giving incorrect reading.

Heating jaguar 1996 xj6 all works but no heat at all

due to the fact there is duel zone heating in these cars there is a heater control unit could a amplifier these tend to fail and you wont be able to get any heat a genuine unit is very expensive around $1500 but if you shop around you can get one for around $250 non genuine
then its just a matter of getting a jag tech to fit it

good luck
