2002 Nissan Altama 2.5 S

I have a 2002 Nissan Altama 2.5 S. When I start it with out giving it gas it will stall. If I give it a little gas it will start with no problem it will idle a little ruff a first. if I let it run for a little and give it a little gas it will be fine after a while. I took it to a couple of mechanics and hooked it up to a computer and no codes should up. what could it be.

Sounds to me like you need a new head gasket. top off your coolant overflow bottle. run vehicle as if nothing was happening and in few days check level of coolant in the bottle. OR you can check the cylinders for coolant intrussion by removing all 4 spark plugs in the morning after you use the car the day before. You will most likely find coolant down there. (check to see if the pistons are nice and clean on top / washed by the coolant) I have done a few and have seen a few beeing replaced for the same symptom. RUNS ROUGH FOR FEW SECONDS AFTER START UP. Thats the coolant in cylinder washing the plug down, resulting in misfire until the coolant burnes of inside the cylinder, that's when the car will run OK. Let me know what you find.

Your coolant temp. sensor may be on it's way out so it won't set a code right away.Try changeing it and see.It shouldn't be expensive

1998 nissan altama starts stalling after stopping and turning right

Hi , the ultima has a internal fuel pump. it is possible that the pump filter has been blocked. otherwise it can be a loose connection on the management system. first bet would be to check the electrical under the hood especially anything connected to the fuel system, the turn could cause the connection to fail.

When i turn the key it cranks and starts but turns off right away. Th only way it remains on is if i give it gas as i turn it on. Someone please help

Here are a couple of things that I would suggest you check because they can all lead to the problem that you are having:
  1. Fuel Filter, if it has been a long time since you have replaced it, it might just be slightly clogged and needs a little help getting the gas there to begin with.
  2. IAC valve, the idle air control valve can cause this when it is starting to go bad
  3. Fuel Pressure Regulator, like the name says, it regulates fuel pressure and when it starts to go bad it has symptoms like you have.
Let me know if you have any questions.  Good Luck!  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!
