1985 ford f150 fi 302 2 wheel drive, can't identify the rearend housing. Pinion seal is leaking and the shaft is little sloppy in the housing it has 165000 miles on it

There should be a metal tag somewhere under the dirt and grime. It will be held on by one of the housing nuts. You might try to wipe off gunk from pinion seal flange and read a number for that seal.

Try pulling the vacuum line off the EGR valve when the engine is warm and idling rough. If the EGR is bad the engine will idle normal once you remove the vacuum line. It will be located on the intake manifold.

As long as they are the same rearend and the same gears, yes. ie a 9.25 rear with 3.92 gears will not work where a Dana 44 with 3.55 gears was.
