How to replace altenator belt on 1994 geo metro

I just got a used 1994 Metro 4 cylinder sedan.

My alternator belt squeels real bad when the engine is cold.

I have been using belt spray up until now but now I've bought a new belt. My Hayne's repair guide is not much help on how to change that belt but surely there is an easier way to change it without removing the alternator. Is there no tensioner that can be loosened off ?

It's actually super easy.
All you need is your year and make alternator belt and a wrench.
Take off the existing altenator, take off the old belt.
Once the altenator is off you'll be able to look further down below where the altenator was. You'll see a metal wheel that's a little bigger than the one on the altenator. This is where the new belt needs to wrap around.
I found it alot easier to wrap the belts around the two wheels before putting the altenator back on the engine.
Make sure that all bolts and seals are sound. (that's the last thing you need falling off in the middle of nowhere!)
Hope it helped!

If your geo is losing power ,first thing to do is a comprision test .
if its testing any thing below 100 psi you may have to replace the piston rings.

timing belt would be my guess. have had that happen to me on 2 different geo's. Not a real hard item to replace, and the price of the belt and new seal is around $25.00, But labor can run a couple hudred.
