Question about 2000 Ford Focus

Key is extremly hard to turn. Have replaced the key cylinder, no help. Sometimes the key cannot be turned far enough to get the thing started. It is a 1989 Ford E350 with a 460, automatic w/o overdrive.

99 malibu, key won't turn in ignition (it's new cylinder and casing that worked fine before I changed gear shift back to park and connected the battery)

Shake ya sterring wheel from side to side and try turning ya key. The lock could be stuck and needs to be freed up. This should do the trick.

You may be using a worn key. If you recieved more than one key at purchase, try a different one.If you are still having a problem, then you will need to replace your lock cylinder. This is not a big job as long as you can still get it to turn in to the on position. Don't wait too long, because if it is a bad cylinder, and it gets bad enough that you can no longer turn it to the on position, then the cylinder must be drilled out. Try a different key first, if the problem remains, then get it to a qualified mechanic right away, and have the lock cyliner replaced. Not a very expensive repair as long as you can still get it in the on position.

When the key is in the ignition,on my f150, it some times will not turn in the cylinder.thank you.

A couple of things could be happening. One your wheels are turned too far one direction so you can pull down hard opposite the direction your wheels are and then tuen key. Second the tumbler mechanism in your key cylinder could be gummed up. Easy try just spray some WD40 directly into cylinder they move key in and out of cylinder that may help

Key will not turn to start car

Your key could be worn too much or the cylinder could be seized. Spray the cylinder with pb blaster or wd40 with the key inserted in the cylinder. Tap lightly on the key in different directions but not hard enough to break the key.
If that does not help, the key could need to be replaced or the cylinder needs to be looked at by a lock smith or replaced.

My key won't turn in ignition of jeep cherokee 1999--turned the wheel to lock but the key still won't turn

i have had this problem before, fixed it once by spraying some (lubrication of your choice) into the key cylinder... then slide the key in and out several times and give it another go... if that doesn't work, make sure (sounds stupid but...) the car is in park, jiggle it a bit to make sure.... if that does not work there is several other things you can try...

I have a 1997 pontaic grand prix GT. My key seems to be stuck in the ignition, when i put it in park and go to shut off the car, the key goes back enough to shut it off but not back far enough to get the...

Try wiggling the gearshift lever when you put it in park. I have a Chevette that does the same thing. If that doesn't work, I would check the actual ignition switch that is down on the steering column under the dash. It could either be worn or out of adjustment. Any questions I'll be glad to help.

My 2004 crossfire's key won't turn in the ignition, why?

I had the same problem. I had to replace the entire ignition module at my cost. It happens fast, first just sticks when turning, then a day or two later, it will lock. If you jiggle the steering wheel it will sometimes free the lock and you can turn the ignition. Just a poor design. The only way to get the ignition cylinder out is to turn the key to the on position (there are write ups on this on the internet). Most of the time that is not possible and you are stuck somewhere with no way to turn on your car. If you are able to do that do not turn the key off completely or it will probably never turn on again. Just leave it in the ACC setting until you figure out what you want to do. It is not that difficult to take the entire lock cylinder out and start the car with just the key tip that fits in the ignition slot (or a screwdriver if you have one). The only problem is that the key has a built in RFID sensor that needs to be within a few inches of the plastic piece around the key cylinder for the car to start, so even if you do that you have to find a place to stick the key to the dash right next to the ignition. Just take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

It is a very common problem and these wear out after use. A plastic actuator pushing a metal pin to unlock the key cylinder... it will be a replacement part and repair for Chrysler forever. At $525+ per repair it should be a recall, and it will happen to every crossfire owner. Mine went out at ~39,500 miles and I know it will again sometime in the car's life.

The other option is to drill out the steering wheel lock, much more difficult and extremely hard to get to under the dash. That would solve the problem forever, but most of us don't like dismantling our car's ignition and drilling into things that should not be taken apart.

Key Stuck

It is a one time thing if you parked the front tires against something that forced the steering sector in a turning bind. ie, if you had tried to turn the steering wheel hard in the direction that the wheels were pointed, it may have released the tension on the key assembly....
Otherwise, it may occur again., good luck

Truck won't do anything!

I would say it is entirely possible that the lock cylinder is not turning far enough to engage the solenoid circuit. Common problem. My 92 C1500 and 94 K1500 have both done the same thing. Replacement is a breeze if you have the tools (steering wheel puller, lock plate remover and torx bits for removing the lock cylinder retaining bolt) 1. Remove steering wheel. 2. Remove lock plate (held on with spring clip).3.Remove screw that holds turn signal linkage and remove linkage 4. Remove screw in 4 way flasher knob and remove. 5. Remove 3 screws that hold down turn signal switch and gently pull switch out of housing about 2 inches. 6. Remove little white plastic switch that is in the way of the torx head bolt that holds the lock cylinder in. 7 Remove torx bolt and pull lock cyinder out of column. Reverse operation to reassemble. Good luck. Part is less that $20 at any parts store.
