You have a front and rear main seal, if either of these are leaking the oil will be coming from the center of the engine above the oil pan. There are 2 1 in front and 1 in back of the engine.
Over haul engine or replace it, to do just a crankshaft kit you will also need to have the piston rods mechine or it will start to knock in a short time again.Good luck and I hope this was very helpful.
Yes you can do it in the car.The only thing that may hinder you is you have to remove the Y-pipe and the nuts on the studs may be extremely rusted,so make sure you soak them really good with PB Blaster or eqivalent before trying to take them loose.
Usually this is caused by an Oil Pump that is Goig Bad. If the oil is not Circulating Through the Motor it will Cause the Loss of power and Could cause a Complete Motor Lockup. I would get this Looked into asap.
