Question about 2004 GMC Sierra

Charging batteries 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Diesel The truck sat for about three weeks and when I tried to start it, there was some juice, but not enough to turn over the engine. How do I go about charging the batteries on this dual battery setup? Can I attach a trickle charger to the jump point in the middle and charge both batteries at the same time? Do I have to disconnect the batteries and charge individually? Please let me know if you have any solutions. Thanks, Jason jpark76@hotmail.com

Thanks. Is it better to put it on trickle charge or fast charge?

You can charge both batteries at the same time. Just hook up the charger on one battery the same way as you would in a single battery system.

It is a good idea to get some sort of battery tender to hook up whenever you leave your truck parked for over a week.

I would try hooking the trailer up to another vehicle and see if everything works right if everything works on the trailer I would start testing the trailer plug on your truck could be a wire has broken.

Ran out of diesel now vehicle won't start

This is not unusual on a diesel. What happens is there is air in the system. If this vehicle has an electric fuel pump loosen line where fuel enters injection pump then turn ignition key to the on position and watch for fuel to appear and then quickly tighten line before turning off key. Then try to start. If does not have electric fuel pump will need a second person. One will loosen line and watch while other cranks vehicle until you get fuel and tighten line before the other person releases ignition switch unless vehicle starts first. If that doesn't do the job do this where line hooks onto each injector. Probably will not have to do this to all injectors but could run rough until all the air gets out of everything. I have farmed with diesel tractor for 25 years and dad I drove the gm vehicles with the 5.7. You normally don't start a diesel without bleeding the air out of the lines although some will self bleed most won't. Hope this does the trick.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD truck with a 6.0 L engine. Every once in awhile when I turn the key to start the truck all the lights and power "blanks" out just like it does when you engage...

Verify all the battery cables are clean and tight, check for acid intrusion into the positive battery cable as well also check the battery cables at the starter and engine ground connections for being tight and having no corrosion.. Turn the nut and or bolts a 1/4 turn just to clean any possible corrosion under them.

What is the proper technique for replacing batteries in the 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 HD 4WD Diesel pickup, without messing up the computer in the system?

disconnecting the batteries will not mess up the computer the only thing it will do is erase the kam which the computer will relearn within three times of driving, if you are worried about erasing the kam most diesels have more than one battery and they are usually connected so you can replace only one at a time and have no worries if the vehicle only has one battery they do sell power savers that you can plug into your cigarette liter and keep the computer "alive"
