Question about 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais

1 Answer

Car dies My car can idle for a long time, but when i go to drive it down the block it dies and I can't restart. I have changed the crank sensor, fuel pump , oxygen sensor, wiring to relays, catalytic converter and had the parts store check the ignition control module and they said it was good. I don't get a check engine light either, and my code reader comes up with nothing.

Look on the front of your transmission from the front of the car on the drivers side there is a module there. It sticks out of the front of the trans and should be white with a blue clip. Unplug that sensor and see if the car idles as you are driving it . This sensor is called a idle sensor, car idles until its stopped like at a light or something. Replace this sensor if unplugging it to see if this helps the car run works.

Engine dies

if it shuts off while driving down the road. and restarts after 10 minutes, its usually a bad crank sensor that does this. it messes up timing and shuts off fuel supply.

Check for fuel pressure and check for spark during the no start condition. Also check the crank sensor, it is located behind the crank pulley mounted in the engine block on the 4.3 L engine
I hope this helps.

1998 Nissan Pathfinder dies

sounds like might have bad fuel pump. take fuel line off see if it has pressure. the pump should come on if key is turned on without cranking it. or it can be the mass air sensor. it can't monitor the load.

It is one of 2 things fuel pump or Crank Shaft Position Sensor. Best bet would be the Crank Shaft Sensor, and what that does is tell the computer where the crank is and when to fire the right plug at the right time

Check and see if you have spark when it won't start. If it don't check the ignition module, Coil Packs,Crank and Cam Sensors. See if that gets in the right direction and let me know if not get back we will see if there is some more things we can look at. Ok thanks Bear001
