That could be a variety of problems. The first thing you might do is this. When it isn't working, open the hood and see if the clutch on the A/C compressor is cycling. If it engages and disengages while the air conditioning is on, that would indicate that the problem might be ducting or another issue. If the clutch doesn't cycle, one of the first things I would check would be to see if there was power to the clutch when the A/C is turned on. It would be helpful to know what your vehicle is, such as year, model, and if it's equipped with Automatic Climate Control like many Buicks are.

That's what I was wondering. I suspect that the problem is in the Auto Climate Control module. It's a small computer up under the dash that controls the a/c and heater, and the vent system. I have a '95 Park Avenue that is doing a similar thing. Only with mine, the dash vents work when they feel like it and then shut off about as quick! As with your's, it's probably that module although a person should also check the vent controls which are either vacuum or small electric servos, or check for a bad ground connection somewhere. That would give the intermittent failure also. That module is probably a junk yard item. A new one even on Ebay is a couple hundred at best.
Good luck!
