Ok first thing to do is remove the cap off the distributer. then crank the engine and see if the rotor is spinning. also check to see if the igniton fuse/relay is good. make sure that the rotor has a good contactor and the cap as well

Check with a DC volt meter or test light to make sure that the coil is getting proper voltage when the ignition is switched on. You can also OHM out the coil to see if it is burnt open or shorted out.

There should be two screws holding down your distributor cap (on opposite sides or across from each other) to access your rotor. A slotted/regular screw driver should release the latches with one quarter of a turn to one half turn to release the spring loaded latches.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

A quart of Marvel Mystery Oil or Automatic Trans. Fluid in the crankcase and letting it warm up before you changed the oil might have helped pump up that collapsed/noisy lifter. Hopefully it will pump up after warming up as the lubricant will be thinner.

A week or a couple of hundred miles, then change oil as usual. Just replace one quart of motor oil with on quart of Trans fluid. Don't run straight Trans fluid.

Change the rotor cap and coil and still no spark

Did you check for B+ voltage at the coil ? Need volt meter to check that ! Ignition module could be bad ! There are videos on youtube for testing this ignition system !

1987 Ford Ranger. Won't fire.

Ignition module comes to mind. If you've tested for spark (holding spark plug wire near the block when cranking) and the cap and rotor are good, it seems the module is the only other area left to try. Best of luck Patrick. Please post back with any other questions.
