First of all the engine must be running when you check your automatic transmission. when the engine and trans is cold (you just started it for the first time of the day) the fluid should be up to the cold line when the the engine is hot(you have been driveing for awile) it should be up to the hot line.

Pt cruiser transmission stick

I would go by the hot reading of the cars transmission fluid. Check while in park and idling, check as you stated on level ground. Wait until the car temperature reaches normal operating temperature then check the fluid, not once but at least two, even three times to make sure your reading is accurate. If it shows a cold reading still then add fluid until it is within the hot reading area/marks. NOTE: be aware that when it says hot meaning the fluid in the transmission is hot, not just the cars motor. So you may want to drive it around to warm it up then come back and park it on a level surface and leave it running. Wait 5 mins or so then go out and check the fluid, again it should read between the hot marks if not, add until it does. Hope this clarifies the proper way to check your transmission fluid.

How to Check Automatic Transmission Fluid?

run the vehicle until the engine temp guage is in the yellow .
with the engine running, open the hood and pull the transmission dip stick.
read the stick and replace fluid that has been lost , or whatever...So long as the engine is warm (hot) the reading should be accurate on the dipstick.

The check transmission light comes on right after i start the car

The transmission fluid has depleted enough maybe reaching the low level sensor. Check before adding and do accordingly. If low, place a funnel in dip-stick filler tube and check often while filling. Fluid should be checked with vechicel in park and ideling to get the proper reading on the dip-stick. You will olso see a cold reading and hot reading on the dip-stick if equiped with that feature ..............Hope this helps you out.

Where do you add transmission fluid in 2006 chevy uplander?there is no fluid bbut we can't find where to add more.also we herd weird pulling sound and van started to over heat some.Thank you for your help

Automatic transmition fluid is added through the dip[stick tube. You should use a funnel that is long with a small opening. Auto Parts stores carry funnels just for this purpose. Add small amounts and check the level frequently when adding fluid. the difference between low and full is usually about 1/2 of a quart. If you over fill an automatic its a pain to get the excess fluid out. Check the fluid regularly for a while and add as needed or take it to a mechanic and have them do it.

How do i know if my transmission is going out or if im low on fluid? cant seem to find my transmission fluid where would i find it? and what are the signs that my transmission is going bad?

If you know where the oil dipstick is, the transmission dipstick is very similar but closer to the firewall. Engine must be idleing to check tranny. There are normally marks on the stick that read "cold" and "hot". That describes the level of fluid dependant on tranny temp. Transmission fluid should be changed around every 30,000 miles. Symptoms of bad tranny, assuming good clean fluid, are hard shifting, won't shift (i.e.stays in 2nd gear) Or you accelerate and the tranny spins then jerks the car suddenly. An honest tranmission shop can tell.

Your transmission is going to fail sooner or later, the whining noise you hear is the the clutch packs in the transmission going out.

Transmission dip stick

You have to buy one, can possibly get from wrecking yard but first make sure it is the same transmission by calling dealership and asking what years have the same trani.......must be the same because otherwise the length could be different and you would not get correct reading. But you really need one.
