Question about 1990 Mazda MX-5

Mx5 non starting

After a 3 year spell in a dry garage without use, my 1990 mx5 wont start. I have put a new battery and plugs in, and she fires when I pour a small amount of fuel straight into the plug holes. It is not gettting any fuel supply from the tank. I can not hear the pump, but do not remember hearing it before. What are the checks I need to find the problem and rectify it? Thanks in advance

Thanks for that. Can you tell me where the fuel pump relay is? Also, is the fuel pump underneath by the tank or under the rear parcel shelf? My car is a LHD, originall from LA and now in France. Cheers

I have the same problem but my miata has been sitting almost 2 years and with a new battery...lights, etc. will not even come on..just like I never put in a new battery. Plugs seem to be fine...what do you suggest trying?

Check the the fuel pump relay they should click. however after 3 years in a garage the fuel in the tank is probably turned into varnish. you would be wise to drop the tank and clean it out, this will save you problems in the long run.i would change the fuel filter as well. please rate this solution.thank you

Check the timimg belt, check fuel pressure, the injectors may be clogged with dried gas residue after three years. Check for spark.

Need your thoughts, Sons Ford Probe has been sitting in my garage approx. 2 years without starting it. Put new battery in it and changed battery terminal leads but have no power, no lights ect. What would...

Make sure the new battery is good and fully charged. Also, check carefully your connections to the battery and the connections at the other ends of the cables. The connections should all be clean and tight. Also, look for signs of defects in the cables, especially at the terminals. Good luck!

Rx7 Mazda 1989 non turbo

I tried a Solution used from a previous posting... The automatic transmission fluid, (ATF), trick.
After doing everything in the mainianace manual, without a positive outcome... I tried it..
3 capfulls in each trailing spark plug hole... but it must be after or just after the apex went past the hole...
remember turn the shaft manually until the apex passes.  Also remember their are six apex seals, 3 on the front rotor and 3 on the back, thats 18 cap fulls total.  Don't worry if some drips or pours out after putting it in the spark plug hole.  I did it with a med seringin.  but be careful the end could break off in the plug hole.(don't ask) Just make sure you do all six just after each apex.  Then take both leading plugs off and spray them with starter fluid and put them back just after you spray them.  This, I was told, was to make sure the car fires on the first start.  IT works.....
This is also a trick after having starting problems when the car floods.......
That why I waited so long to try it,  I did need it for flooding.....
This swells up the seal... they got dried out from sitting at least four years... ATF soaks into them and
helps the compression...

Start up Problems of my 1989 Golf GL

After sitting for a long time my Honda has a hard time starting. I have forun that it isn't a ignition problem rather a compression problem. Try about a tablespoon of 10w30 down the spark plug holes. turn the motor over then replace the plugs.

Car wont start

several things to look at
1 start with alternator is worn out i would check this first
2 the fuel filters all of them is cloged or installed in properly
they tend to have 3 one in engine compartment one under the chasis close to the tank and one actually in the tank its called the sending unit with a filter on end depending on milelage this does need to replaced after 100 thousand miles
3 bad computer module
4 the actual spark plug wires are not connected properly or out of order or eec << spell check this for the actual for cap
5 timing is off on the vehicle
6 cracked or faulty throtle body injection air intake mixture housing you will find this connected to the air filter remove whole air filter assembly then run vehicle it will run ruff without this assembly but will run
7 the car will run rough with bad oxygen sensor but it should still turn over
8 a mouse or small animal had made its way up the muffler pipes which has cut off the output so the car cant breathe
9 someone poured sugar in your tank or put ping pong ball in tank this would result in hicups
10 bad capasiter (spell check) ignition coil
11 bad relay for starter
12 bad battery even though battery can show good doesnt mean that it really is good it could have a dead cell test with a jump once started vehicle disconnect positive on battery this will show 2 things one bad alternator cause it wont power system it will also show a dead cell in battery
13 a/c compressor bearing went out and is frozen stuck this is also where you get a stall in motor
14 there is a major vacume leak in vehicle i would start the vacume inspection with the brake master cylinder on fire wall this will severly not start your vehicle

these are the things i can think of off the top of my head without actually being there inperson to see the vehicle that will make it hard to start or hiccuping
also some of these items will not show on computer diagnosis seeing there more mechanical than electrical
i hope this helped you in your quest
