Question about 2005 Ford F-150

Why did i buy a ford

Hey there, I was driving down the road when my engine failsafe mode light came on. I pulled over and shut the truck off, when the dealer told me aI could drive it into town I was only able to go 30 km/ph. The told me it was a throttle body sensor so they fixed it and charged me ^00 bucks, as I was driving home from the shop that day the exact same thing happened. Now they are telling me it is the throttle body itself, any ideas on what might be wrong. No warning numbers come up when they plug in their comp0uter

This has happened to me quite a few times now... however, I notice that it happens during the cold season. It happened a few times last year around this time and just went away when the temp got warmer. I'm from Riverside CA and cold isn't that much of a problem for too long so I thought I was ok.... then, the cold came again and the truck is shutting down while on the Freeway and in an intersections. NOW... this **** has me worried... specially when it's my wife who's driving the kids!

    What could this be?

Most vehicles that are new have a fail safe. most of the time when this ingages it has to do with low fluid levels especially low coolant. no codes thrown on the computer presents a unusual problem because when the fail safe ingages it should auto matically throw a code. tell me when you first start it does it drive normal for a while?

If the check engine light is on (from the misfire from the crossed wires), the computer is in "reduced power" mode. You need to clear the codes with a scan tool and try again.

Failsafe engine mode

go to a parts store and have the codes read(most of them will do it for next to nothing. There is also more than likely some maintenance needed. get back to me when you have the codes and we can diagnose this together.
Just because there is a code does not necessarily mean that part is bad, but an area to test to find the actual problem.

2006 f-150 goes into a failsafe mode.In the last month about once a week this did happen. As your driving the engine shuts off and the alert on the odometer says failsafe mode.Have you heard of this...

The dealer is correct but any auto prts store caqn bring the codes up for free as they want to sell you the parts to fix it. Failsafe is involve with exhaust emmissions and the car needs fixed noe before the parts are failed

Runs rough (like it is chugging) when you drive down the road. it does it always and the check engine light comes on and goes off but the truck still runs rough, the local mechanic plugged it into the...

You don't have what I would call a mechanic, and what he did was hook a scanner to the diagnostic connector, to check for codes, Nothing else. He diagnosed nothing.
You never left the vehicle with specifics, of your expectations of what you wanted fixed,so to speak.

Bad COP Ignition Coils--- -common on all 1998 thru 2011 fords with cop. At least 1 or 2 fail a year. Some spike the PCM and go into failsafe.shutting the vehicle down

EGR Valves---fail,especially your electronic one

Clean MAF Sensor
Clean Throttle Plate
No Vacuum Leaks--anywhere
Check TPS Voltages
Check
Fuel Pressure

There is more, work on that first

Hey im driving down the road just doing 60mph cruzing an the truck just shuts off and i pull over wait a sec an it starts right back up

Could be a sensor flaking out on you, or the PCM Power train Control Module crapping out also.

Are you getting any MIL or Check Engine light??

Solution for the message "engine fail safe mode" in explorer 2005

I have hearing a lot of this lately with Fords. Most of the time this dash board light comes on due to problems with the Throttle Body (TB)not just your coolant,etc.. If it is sticking, dirty, causing misfires, etc. then this can cause an engine fail safe mode. You might first try putting in some injector cleaner and a higher grade of gas. Many people I know who have had this problem have had to have their TB cleaned and/or replaced. This is something Ford dealerships now about, but hasn't been made a recall or anything. There are service bulletins though.Mainly keeping cleaner in your gas and performing ritual tune-ups/oil changes may be the only thing you can do.Hope this helps

Failsafe engine mode

The failsafe mode can appear following numerous faults being detected - some faults can be momentary and register but not cause a problem. These are normally reset by just turning ignition off/on. get the fault code memory read at a garage and this may give you a clue as to a possible problem developing. Failsafe mode will give you reduced engine performance but will allow you to drive for normally some distance. If a serious problem developes your car message centre will tell you to shut off the engine or it will shut it down.
good luck.

does the engine completely shut off? It sounds like the electronic throttlebody is causing the problem.
