Question about 1998 Dodge Caravan

Engine, tranny removal?

Any tips or things that I should know about removing the engine and tranny as a single unit? Can I assume the ***'y is removed from the bottom? What about wiring? Do I remove each and every plug or do I remove one major plug and leave the harness on the motor. I have removed the rad to expose the engine...

Thanks Stefan

You can remove them as a unit out of the bottom. There are not really any large connectors except for the injector harness. Other than that one connector you will need to disconnect all of the individual connectors on the engine and trans.

Have fun and good luck. That job isn't as bad as it looks.

How to take out a transmission

Are you sure you got all the bolts out? (Transmission to engine block bolts)
Everything is removed from tranny until only the tranny to engine bolts are left. That is the last thing to remove, then the tranny and torque converter should slide back and away from the engine block. There are metal dowels between the tranny case and engine block-where the two mate up-these dowels can rust and stick, but a little prying will move the tranny back away from the engine. Make sure everything is removed from tranny, then check that all bolts are removed. It is easy to miss a bolt.

Dodge raider engine removal

It is best to remove the engine /tranny as a unit. Remove all things that will not allow the engine to move forward and up such as radiator. Undo the manifolds at the heads. Undo all electrical connections and use masking tape to number the connectors so that you know where each one is connected. Get a good engine hoist and use a load shifting lifter bar ( a tool that has a hook point that is adjusted by a threaded bar ) so that as you can adjust the center of gravity of the unit on the hook. As you come forward you can alter the lift point so that the tranny drops to the rear allowing you to lift the unit at an angle to get it up and over the front bar of the body Remember to drain all oils before you start and it won't be half as messy. Remove the bonnet as well for more room

How to remove a 68 ford mustang fender?

The fenders don't have to come off to remove the motor. Scribe a line around the hood hinges where they're attached to the hood and then get a friend to help remove the hood. Remove radiator. Disconnect exhaust, fuel lines, electrical connections, motor mount, hoses, remove tranny mounts, disconnect tranny linkages and cooler lines. Drop rear U joint and remove drive shaft. Plug drive shaft hole with a rubber stopper or a rag. Use a chain and an engine hoist to remove the engine/tranny as a unit then separate the tranny from the engine. Sounds like a lot of work, but it's a lot easier than trying to remove the engine out the front. Besides, you've got a welded in radiator mount to contend with. Reverse everything to put engine back in. A couple of 6 packs and a friend or two to help and you're done in 3 to 5 hours (depends on quality of friends mechanical abilities!)

Whats involved in changing clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing on a 1996 ford mustang

The vehicle must be raised on four jackstands. Disconnect the battery pos(+) terminal. The driveshaft has to be removed . Then remove the three starter mounting bolts, this will allow acess to the main feed wire to the starter, remove the 1/2 inch nut and lock washer and remove the wire.Place the starter to the side. Next you'll need to remove the rear tranny mounting bolt. Then remove the crossmember from the frame. This is where you'll wish you hadn't started this job. You must support the tranny while sliding the crossmember out. This can easily be accomplished by placing a small floorjack centered under the tranny pan with a 1 foot by 1 foot square piece of plywood on the jack lift cradle.Next you'll want to remove and put aside any sensors (back-up, speed, gear position...) if utililized from the tranny. Remove all bell housing bolts. remove the slave unit from the bell housing. Very carefully roll the tranny back a small amount and lower the jack a small amount. Continue this until the tranny is free of the pilot bearing.Lower and remove the tranny. Remove the pressure plate in a rotation motion as not to put too much strain on any one single bolt. Remove the pressure plate being careful not to be hit by the clutch disk which will now be free. Check the condition of the flywheel for cracks and glazing. This will determine if it needs to be turned or replaced. Check the pilot bushing with your finger to make sure it turns smoothly and freely.Then......put it back together with your new parts. Any questions? Good luck, Dana

Tell me how to remove gearbox

The best and quickest way is to remove both engine and trans together as a single unit out of the BOTTOM of the Rav4. This is how the service was designed. I can send you cutsheets with visual diagrams if you need it is a 2 page replacement procedure for the Rav4 2wd. I'm assuming the 4wd is much more work.

How do i remove mitsi gto gearbox

Remove air intake hoses to throttle body, remove battery tray, remove washer bottle attached to battery tray, remove clutch slave cylinder and compensator from the top of the tranny. Remove tranny gearchange control cables and hang up to one side.
Jack car up as high as you can and remove the wheels. DRAIN the gearbox (24mm not on bottom side).
Now go under the car and remove the starter motor, remove the exhaust front pipe (can unbolt from front CATs and let hang down), remove frame member and remove the plastic covers from the passenger side wheel well to get to the frame member. Remove the lower control arm bolts on both sides and let the control arms hang down. Disconnects both sway bars at the wheel hubs to allow the drive shafts to be pulled outwards. ease the drive shaft on passenger side out with pry bar and have someone pull on the hub to pop the drive shaft out. On the drivers side, you have to first remove the intermediate bracket on the block and then do the same thing with the drive shaft to pull it out.
Support the tranny with a jack.Remove the four bolts holding the tranny support bracket (covered with four grommets in passenger wheel well). Remove the three bolts from the top of the tranny and remove the bracket.

Now work your way around the tranny and remove the bolts holding it to the engine (there is a 10mm phillips screw/bolt holding a dirt sheild in place under the rear of the tranny, the other bolts are more obvious).

Tranny is now ready to be lowered to the floor using the floor jack.

Installation is the reverse of the above. Good Luck.

Tranny removal

I'm assuming that you haven't found the mystery trans. to engine bolt. Remove the rear trans. mount. Just below the trans mount is an engine to trans. bolt.
