Welcome to Fixya

The power transistor and the crank position sensor are all built into the distributor. The condenser is a separate unit next to the distributor. Try to replace the distributor and see if this will fix the problem.

    Try this:

    - remove the distributor off the engine with all wires attached.
    - pull the fuel rail upside-down, with all injectors attached.
    - set the ignition switch to ON.
    - slowly rotate the distributor shaft and check whether the injectors are firing.

If the injectors are NOT firing, you have a ECU issue. If the injectors ARE firing, then you are likely having an ignition issue.

Another is if you have both no spark and no injector pulse, the culprit is most like the crank sensor. If you have injector pulse but no spark, then it's most likely the cam sensor.

Fuel system problem 1996 nissan altima

Thats a good one. thank you for all the detail. if your exhaust was plugged you would notice a great loss in power .but having to ground your fuel pump your selves to get it to work sounds like you having issues with your wiring. , double check your fuel pump relays and fuses, and the connection at the pump. I have had a few problems with aftermarket pumps in my Grandpas truck. Ive had one fail after just one day of use. and had to replace it.

Ok so I bought a 2002 Nissan altima my husband drove it 15 miles filled up gas and drove approx 5 and it died - bad fuel pump.... We replaced the fuel pump but still having drive for awhile and die issues....

theres nothing wrong with the fuel pump..did you test the mass air floww sensor or have the egr valve replaced..it will save you trouble from keeping your 2002 nissan altima from dying out.

1996 Nissan Altima crank-no start. Didn't hear the fuel pump, changed it. Still don't hear the fuel pump, still crank-no start. Float in gas tank has power, gauge reads correct. Is the relay for the...

There is a disconnect for the fuel line in the engine compartment. Disconnect it at the motor and cycle the key. This will determine if your fuel pump is running. If it is not which I would assume it isnt then check the relay. If the relay is not clicking when you cycle the key then replace it. If you have low pressure then try replacing the fuel filter. This could cause low pressure and keep the vehicle from starting. If it is not fuel delivery then there is a problem with your timing or firing order.

My 1996 nissan altima will stat and idle just fine but, when you try to drive it down the road it boogs down and acts like it wants to die. Do you know what would cause this.

a plugged fuel filter can cause this also a defective fuel pump, the other part that can cause this is called a MAF sensor.
