Air conditoner on a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited

My air conditoner was working fine. Blowing cold. Then one day I was setting in a parking lot waiting for someone and I smelt someting burning so I turned the air off and the next day I went to turn it on and the air would not blow but I could here the compresser kick on.So my brothger in law checked to blower motor and he wiggled some wires and it started blowing agian but the only problem is that now it will only blow hot air. It feels like the heater is on even when i push the air conditioner button. The freeeon was checked and they said that it was full. Any ideas what is wrong?

You have a blend air system. this means that it uses both the a/c and heat to control the cab temp. there are doors that open and close using servo motors and chances are one or more of these motors might have shorted out. unfortunately they are under the dash and a pain to get to. i would advice that you take it to a shop and let a qualified tech replace them. it will save you alot of frustration in the long run

I also have a 2001 Cherokee w/ the same AC problem, except when the dealer tried to charge me $2000 for the blend door repair, and a head controller. i replaced the head controller myself from LKQ autoparts (national) for a third of the dealer's price of $600.
Try that first. The head controller is the whole ac control box in your dash, and is VERY easy to replace. Four screws to take it out, then unplug the wires and plug in the new one.

Do you have dual zone control on the heat a/c control? It's been my experience that is the first thing to go. The blend door is more of a problem between blends, Like bi-level (defrost and floor etc..)

Coolant fan not turning and air conditioner blows out hot air.

Re-check the relay to make sure it's still good, then check the fan by hot wiring it to the battery. Also check the temp sensor on the engine. If the check light is on, don't drive it 'till you find out why or you can damage the engine.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater will not turn off

It could also be the rheostat that controls it. it's on the fan plenum under the dash. inserts into the plastic plenun.

2001 Grand Cherokee Heat on one side cold air on the other side?

The blend door on the passenger side has broken. Jeep has made a replacement section for the heater box assembly so you don't have to buy the whole thing. You will need to remove the heater/A/C box to replace the part. I have done quite a few of these repairs to fix the problem
