Hi there, on this vehicle youll see a cover on top of the valve cover with about two or three screws on top. unscrew them and underneath you see a box type components (square in shape) with wires connected to them (4 to be exact) they might have a screw holding them down as well. unscrew them and gently pull them upward and the spark plugs are down in the hole (5/8 socket and extention to get them out) good luck and appreciate your question.

How do I change the spark plugs on a 2004 Buick Lasabre?

Did you checked the wires?
Make sure you engine is cool! You might need someone to help you on this test since you need to see if any sparks are coming out while you crank your engine.

Inspect the area where the spark plugs are located to see if you need to remove any parts that might be in the way. Take the wires out of the spark plugs using long pliers, like this ones:
http://www.garrettwade.com/images/330/05R0210.jpg

pulling them above the heat shield on the thick area of the rubber. There's a tool to inspect the spark that uses a grounded wire like this one on the link:
http://toolmonger.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/modern-spark-plug-tester.jpg
or you can just use a clamp with a wire to ground it, like this one on the link:
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/heavychevy396/2011-05-15_213405_test_plug.jpg

Use a spark plug that you know is working fine, or a new one to do this test. The spark should be blueish in color. If it looks yellow or red, replace your wires (assuming your coil is in good condition). You can also use a screwdriver inserted in the wire connector and get it very close, but NOT TOUCHING a ground source to make a spark. This is a "last resource" method and could result in electric shock, so use it at your own risk. If you have a peacemaker have a professional do this for you to prevent any potential problems.

If the wires are working fine, then inspect the spark plugs. To remove the spark plugs you'll need the spark plug socket and a ratchet to remove them. The spark plug sockets come in 2 sizes and always have a rubber gasket inside to grab the spark plug once is loose.

What does a major tune up for a 2004 chevy impala consist of? What should be done and needs to be done?

New spark plugs, oil and oil filter, transmission flush and fill, fuel filter, air filter, coolant flush and fill, clean throttle body plate and bore, clean the MAF sensor, replace any loose or cracked vacuum lines, PCV valve, new air filter, new battery.

99% of the time all you should ever need for a tune up is new spark plugs, and a clean air filter and throttle body. But since your inquiry indicated "major" I gave it more critical thought.

When is a tune up nessessary for a 2004

i would say professionally that youre due for service. replace all filters and spark plugs(replace with ac delco spark plugs only or you WILL trigger a check engine light for random misfire and it will still be running good).

Volvo 1984 StnWagon Dl turns over but dies when taking off the ga

NO Diesel engines dont have spark plugs so dont worry about it as the ones you have should be ok BUT first check the length of the plug thread to the ones you took out, are they the same as they have to be the correct length and not any diffreance also the earth tip on the end
If they look the same 100% your ok to go. RON

I need to know how to install spark plugs on a 2004 dodge durango

3.7L and 4.7L engine have ignition coil for each cylinder. You need to remove the resonator from the throttle body. Now one a time disconnect electrical connector from the coil. With a 10mm socket remove the bolt, now remove the coil , (it will be really tight). You will need different lenght extenions to reach the spark plugs. When installing new plugs use piece of hose to start plugs (so not to cross tread the hole)

Replacing spark plugs on a 2004 chevy malibu

2.2L Engine
  1. Observe the following service precautions:

Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove spark plugs from a hot engine can cause the spark plugs to seize. This can damage the cylinder head threads. Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so can result in engine damage due to dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or in contamination of the cylinder head threads. Contaminated threads may prevent proper seating of the new spark plug. Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF .
  3. Disconnect the Electronic Ignition (EI) module harness connector.
  4. Remove the spark plugs using a 5 / 8 inch spark plug socket.

To install:

WARNING Do not coat spark plug threads with anti-seize compound. If anti-seize compound is used and spark plugs are over-torqued, damage to the cylinder head threads may result.
  1. Inspect the gap on the new spark plugs, re-gap the plugs as required. The spark plug gap specification is 42 inch. (1.0 mm).
  2. Install the spark plugs and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  3. Apply dielectric compound to the spark plug boots and make sure no corrosion is present.
  4. Install the ignition coil housing to cam cover and attachment bolts.
  5. Tighten the ignition coil housing bolts to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
  6. Connect the EI module harness connector. Push in until a click is heard and pull back to confirm a positive engagement.

05 Colorado - New Spark Plugs, Rough Idle

Sounds like you got two wires mixed up. Check your firing order. If not that, then you dropped a spark plug and flattened the gap. If it's a V6 the firing order is 165432. If it's an 8, it's 18726543.

How do can I change spark plugs?

hi hillardgarne,

1. Purchase a wrench for spark plugs
2. pull the tension wires from engine.
3. insert the wrench until wrench gets a grip of spark plug
4. turn until plugs are completely loose
5. do this for the rest of the plugs
6. replace old with new plugs.
7. do the same thing but now, you tighten the plug (like screws)
8. return the tension wires

important:

* remember to know exactly the correct location of each tension wires, return to it's exact location (length of wires will help)
* as you take out old plugs, cover the hole where plugs are placed for it not to get dirty.
* in replacing, make sure that plugs are tightly inserted (not to tight though)

hope it helps.
