99 civic ex misfiring

My 99 civic ex started misfiring the other day. I gave it a tune up in the beginning of the summer. I re changed the plugs, cap & rotor. But it still idels really low and sounds like it is going to bog out when I put it in drive. Any ideas?

Hi there, it could be several different things try these -check the idol air control valve first. try taking off with a\c going and with the a\c off and see if there a differance, if there is, i'd definatly have it checked or replaced. another idea is have the catalitic converter checked, if its clogged you would have bad acceleration, wont idol right, you can check yourself with a vaccum gauge, just connect it to the service port or where the pcv valve connects to the intake and crank up the car and watch the gauge, when you accelerate the vaccum will decrease and let off the accelerator, then watch the guage if it comes back to vaccum very quickly your catalitic converter is good, and if comes back slowly than you have a problem, its clogged

How to tune up my 1997 Honda Civic EX

In maintenance work a tune up would include new spark plugs, if is fitted with a distributor then replace the distributor cap and rotor. if your spark plug cables are old (more than 100,000 miles) may be good to replace them. replace air filter abd cabin filter. check the hoses that carry coolant. change oil and filter. It may be a good idea to change the coolant also to change the transmission oil.

The sixth generation featured updated styling although less radical than previous redesigns. Suspension and engine options were available along with their first Natural Gas Powered Civic, the GX. From 1996-2000 the Civic was sold under the CX, DX, EX, EXR, HX, LX, and for Canada, SE, and Si trims; all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (Honda D engine). The CX, DX, and LX all have D16y7 non-VTEC engines; whereas the EX has a D16y8 VTEC, and the HX has D16y5 VTEC-E. The USDM Si and Canadian SiR came with a DOHC (B16A2 VTEC). The first civic SI coupe EM1 was introduced in 1999 until 2000. Europe saw a DOHC 1.6 VTI hatch and sedan and a DOHC 1.8VTI engine was available for the Domani related five-door liftback and estate..

99 Honda civic chokes under 3500 rpms but drives fine any higher and I changed the fuel filter thinking that it was the problem

You are dealing with a misfire you will need to check cap rotor spark plug and wires, and inspect the coil.

97 Honda Civic shakes at start and check eng light comes on.

It looks like misfiring in one cylinder. That is why check engine come on. Misfiring can be due to spark plugs/wiring/worn distributor cap. Maybe also vaccum leak and clogged injectors (use injector cleaner).
