Question about 1999 Toyota Corolla

3 Answers

The car does not want to move when the engine is cold, "no power" but when I turn off the A/C it will perk up and do fine after that. I also noticed that when going down the road and I mash the gas all the way to the floor I dont have any power but when I lift up my foot just a little the power comes back.

Hi there, it sounds to me that the idle air control valve is either sticking or broken

Some cars are not designed to have enough power to run air conditioning. I had a Mazda that had power windows that would groan and go up slower than molasses when I ran the A/C! That may be a performance problem inherent with your make/model car.

Engine wont catch

Catch?
cranks fast
starts every time.
idles fine hot or cold , or both? hot idle not too fast.
i race engine , in park and neutral, I can hit 3500 rpm easy, can you.
i release brakes, (brakes are not packed in ICE , are they?)
I select 1gear or reverse (A/T or m/t)
the car moves or dont move, which is it, my guess catch = no move at all.
I try to drive, i look at RPM and MPH
RPM moves up and MPH track.
track means they both move in a linear progression.
RPM rises and for all RPM increases MPH also increases.
does it?
if all that works then we have an engine power issue.
weak on hills?

Cold air only from heater

first check temp gauge on dash is it normal if so termostat is fine than check the heater hoses going inside from engine compartment if they are hot rule out control valve if it in the engine compartment sit in the vehicle and listen for any noise when you move heater temp switch from cold to hot if you hear clicking noises and no change it may be blend door accutator with moves when you slide or turn heat control nob the heater may have to be removed on some models eexpensive repair may be needed

1983 lincoln continental mark vi bill blass, "charge system" "oil presure"

The charge light will blink if the key is on and the engine is not running. So if it goes off once the engine starts all is well.
I'm not understanding the oil pressure story. Were you leaving the key switch on for some time but with the engine off, then the oil pressure light came on ?

Engine hunting

what a lovely car -if it was a manual ,i have a diesel manual one and its a flier ,as for this iam not sure so try reading the codes but if this is a gearbox related fault car then its the scrapyard as this car has no value in the UK but if stuck for spares look here in spain as no end of these cars running around and well appreciated here they are as well .This hunting when cold is the puzzle as it could be gearbox related whereby the gearbox computer is operating the engine RPM idle to stop creep but iam just not sure as i never see any autos of rover just manuals

Engine light came on and car barely moved.

Take to autoparts store and have them run the diagnostics, then if still a problem, report back.

Cold morn - not starting. Car was moved a few feet night before.

OK, so starting the engine uses a lot of battery power, and the engine needs to be left running a while to recharge the battery.
When it is cold batterys don't hold as much charge (not quite the correct technical term, but I don't want to go into battery mechanics and chemistry here). You either need to pop it on a trickle charger or let it run for at least 15 minutes.
