No high beams on a 99 chevy

I have a 99 chevy Z-71 which now has no high beams. All other lights work correctly and if you click the dimmer switch the hi beam emblem in the gauge cluster lights up but no high beams. Any thoughts or can someone tell me the location of the high beam realy. Thanks

I have already looked in the underhood fuse panel, the fuse panel by the driver's side and the panel on the interior firewall down by the pedals. Any place left to look?

That is on my to do list for today after work. I am still curious about the relay though. I have had a dealer tell me no such relay exists but the local parts shop has the relay listed for such an application but no location. I will find it if it exists. Thanks

Thanks for your help, I will look into that when I get home from work

Thank you for help. I will look into the headlamp relay when I get home. However, if the relay has gone bad would any of the headlights work? This is a 99 old body style, I am not sure if I mentioned that anywhere.

Now I know exactly what to look for. Previous owner had some add ons an tapped into power inline splices where ever he could, one of which was on a light green wire pulled out of the factory loom. Connection looked bad so that is my first place to start. Thanks again for the help and sorry for making you hunt so bad. I had asked so many other places and that I left out the most important part of the question.

THAT IS WHERE THE HEADLAMP RELAY IS THIS IS THE NEWER BODY SILVERADO? YOU DO NOT HAVE A SEPERATE HI BEAM RELAY CHECK AND SEE IF YOUR GETTING POWER TO THE BULBS

  • Anonymous Aug 28, 2008

the 99-02 only have a headlamp relay it is the on closest to battery in underhood fuseblock. they started with a seperate hi beam and lo beam relay in 03 an up.

you can try and swap the relay from another one there is several in box that are same this is a quick way to rule it out

old body is different than what i have posted. your hi beam indicator runs off the same power feed as the hi beam lights. a light green wire so check and see if you have power at the bulbs if you dont thenm that wire is broke somewhere in the harness

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer and the low beam lights randomly work. I have to drive with my high beams on. we have changed the bulbs, the relay. sometimes the low beams come on in the morning

if this unit has a multifunction(turn signal switch with head lights) switch its about 99% the problem. for sure it is the dimmer switch wherever it is located.

99 S10 high beams work, but low beams don't.

Do you have power in and out of the dimmer switch in the low beam position ?

Low beams not working but high beams are on a 2000 chevy metro

The headlight relay provides power to the dimmer relay, then power goes thru a fuse for each light for each circuit (4). The low beam fuses are in fuse block 2. The dimmer relay is controlled by the daytime running light module. The headlight and dimmer switches send signals to the DRL module. You may need a shop manual to troubleshoot the circuits.

Well the high and low beam lamps use the same fuses, and the dimmer switch handles the ground circuit. So I would check the dimmer switch if both high beam bulbs are ok.

Chevy Venture 99 low beams don't work but high beams always working

I would start with checking the headlight bulbs (slim to none possibility but starting point) next go to the headlight switch.

Headlights do not turn on my chevy cavalier. replaced light bulbs and high beams stay on but no low beams.

Sounds like your dimmer switch is stuck on or broken/worn out. Sometimes you can get it back by clicking your high beam switch in & out many times. If it frees up & switches back to lowbeam it will buy you time before you need to replace the dimmer switch. If not you will need to replace it right away.
