Question about 1993 GMC Sierra K1500

Shuts off while driving

I left a voice message on the number that you listed with my call back phone number. The Fuel pump was replaced 2 years ago, and I do not think this is a fuel issue. When the fuel pump went bad, the vehicle bucked and kicked as the engine lost fuel pressure. This problem the engine instantaneously shuts off and will restart immediately. It has occured both on a cold engine and at operating temperature.

I found the issue after several months. I removed all fuses and relays, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled. The problem has not returned and it have been about 2 months. Thanks to all who provided solutions.

Try running two new ground wires from your battery to your firewall and one more to your block you could have a pretty good short that is grounding out your ignition.

Rough idle during initial startup, then sometimes sputters and shuts off after 20 minutes of normal driving. Happens every few days or so.

I would go after the injectors. Check and see if there is a place around you that clean them. It is way cheaper to clean than replace these. Your's run about $80 a piece.

The fuel pump will come on then, shut off when the key is placed in the ON position, this is normal. What is not normal, is when the key is turned to start the engine, and the fuel pump does not run when the engine is running at the same time. The initial power up you hear is a prime function that all vehicles have.

While driving the vehicle shuts down and after

Sounds like fuel delivery problem. I have seen problems such has crud in the gas tank accumulates in the line, blocking it, or some foreign object such as a foil gum wrapper in the gas tank causing the pump inlet to become blocked. After the engine stops running, the blockage eases allowing gas to come through for a bit, enough to start but when the demand for gas goes back up, here comes the blockage again. Could also be a failing fuel pump. Start with easy stuff like a fuel filter change, and I think there are pressure testers where you can check your flow coming into the carb, injectors or whatever you have on that engine. It is nearly 20 years old, many things can and will fail with age and use.

I will be driving down the road and the car shuts down. The doors unlock and 2 secs later the car just shuts off. About 3 weeks ago They replaced my fuel pump. It did it once right after I got the car back,...

that valve that you seen is to your fuel rail and may have to be bleed. So it sounds like when you had a fuel pump problem during that time you were getting air in your fuel system. After replacing the fuel pump they did not properly bleed your fuel system to the correct pounds of pressure.
