Hi,

A Honda Accord is a full size car/heavy and therefore would have high gas consumption, probably around 8~10 Km/L city driving. Highway would roughly be 10~12 depending on your driving habits.

A full tune-up of course would help which may include but not be limited to change of sparkplugs, adding car/injector cleaner to the tank, checking/replacing the air cleaner, double checking/cleaning/replacing the MAF (if it has got one).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    • electrical injector test - use a DVM, one wire of each injector would have an IGN B+12 while the other wold be a pulsating +12 when engine is cranked.

    • pressure/output test for injector - would require the use of a calibrating machine. A simple go/no-go test is to remove the injectors, retain the wiring and crank the engine. Each injector would spray out fuel. Pls take necessary precautions and safety measures.

    • return fuel - is excess fuel not used by the high pressure pump.

Causes of excessive fuel consumption in honda accord 2003

This is not easy, perhaps the fuel injectors are malfunctioning, computer input to them could be wrong, I'd get the fuel system checked.

Check motor mounts and transmission mounts

Also check the air tube (TOP AND BOTTOM) for hairline crack.

A worn motor mount can cause excessive vibration and damage the air inlet tube.

I've come across some with engines that needed a tune up, but in some cases it's the automatic transmission that is not working correctly causing bad fuel economy. What do you think is the problem in yours?

Considering the mileage of your vehicle, this level of oil consumption is in the normal range. If you want to improve it you have a couple of choices, you can have a mechanic work on the engine, or you can try an engine oil additive such as oil medic.
