Question about 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas
Dealer or locksmith?
dealer is going to be the most expensive option so, i'd say a local locksmith with the right equipment will be the cheapest and fastest way to get this sorted out.. here is an index that might help you with that http://carkeyadvice.com/united-kingdom-car-key-specialist-index i even if im sure you have already got that sorted by now... might still help somebody else with the same or similar problem.. :)

Remove the Licence plate at the back, once you do this, reach for the lock mechanism inside, tingle with it a little bit and you'll find a way to open your trunk.

You may be able to get to the latch mechanism by removing the back seat.
On some models there was an inside trunk release, was that not an option on yours?
Another option is to contact a locksmith to open, and rekey the lock for you. This will probably be least expensive if you take the car to the locksmith for the work to me done.
3rd option, take the car to a dealer, and they might be able to create a new key for you by running the VIN tag coding.
