Disconnect the spark plug cables and number them. Remove the bolts holding the coil in place. Swap in the new coil and reconnect the old wires to the exact same locations you removed them from
theres no distributor and the firing order for your 3.8 is 1-6-5-4-3-2-the following link shows the coil pack Buick General Motor 3800 V6 Engine Firing Order DIS IDI ignition timing

The three coil packs are on the top of the engine, (I assume this is the 3.1 V6?) here is a picture of the coil pack, but all you need to do is follow the spark plug wires back to the coil packs (there are 3 on the V6).
double check the coil pack wiring to be sure they are correct-popping through the intake is usually an indication of bad mechanical timing (I know you said you checked it but that is a big possibility) or a leaking intake valve-or wires not run properly to the plugs.
Hello! Since I do not know which engine is in your vehicle I'll send both diagrams...#1 is the 4 cylinder with firing order; 1-3-4-2........Guru.....Saailer
The numbers to the cylinders are on the coil packs. Standing on the passenger side of the car looking at the engine, the right side is 1, 3, 5 cylinders. On the left is 2, 4, 6 cylinders. Put the correct number cylinder plug wire on the correct number coil pack. The 1,3,5 cylinder plug wires will go on the right side of the coil pack, and the 2,4,6 will go on the left. They will not be in order on the coil pack, so double check the cylinder number.
Did you replace the crank sensor that is bolted to the back of the module? Is it possible that you got two of the plug wires switched. Or maybe 1 of the two coils is bad.
the 3 coils are mounted to the ignition module and as long as the sensors that signal the module to fire the coils individually are working I would try a module especially if all 3 coils are not firing..also if you have an ohmmeter for checking electrical resistance, the spec for the coils are 5000 to7000 ohms, measured between each coil from tower to tower (ie) #1and#4 2+5 and 3+6 any more than that and the coils are toasted..lol hope this helps also check the spark plug wires at each end maximum resistance is no more than 1000 ohms per inch,,,good luck
