Question about 2003 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Semi new battery and alternator problems I recently asked a question about my battery light intermittantly blinking. As chances would have it, my car died due to no battery charge. The battery in my car is about two years old and I replaced the alternator about a year ago. The alternator is a remanufactured one. This is the only time this has happened where my battery is not holding a charge from the alternator even before my alternator was replaced. Any ideas why the happened? And, since my car is dead, I cannot get to an Advance Store to have them check it out...I can only take it tomorrow morning to the shop and thought I would ask here to save me time and money. Thanks!

As i had stated earlier generally the reason battery's don't hold a charge is because the regulater in the altenater is defective and while you may think it's charging the battery while you are driving it is instead discharging it. one other reason is the water inside the battery is low to the point that plates inside start to short themselves . a quick way to find out is when the vehicle is running(have a friend or family or neighbor help you jump start it) remove the positve battery cable. if it keeps running it's the battery if it stalls it's the altenator . I hope this helps you out

My battery light came on and my battery dies like i aint getting a charge and when i charge the battery it starts everytime alternater is good what could it be

How do you know alternator is good?
Put in a cheap volt gauge.
Should read 12.5 normal.
Down to 10 starting.
Back to 12.5 at idle.
Up to 13.5 when engine revved up.

But battery low on water will not hold charge.
Could also have internal short.
Volt gauge will show.

Could also have something staying on, like engine or trunk compartment light?
Pull one battery terminal, and see if test light lights up across gap. If it does, even weak, you have a constant drain. Could be alternator. When diodes go bad, alternator can drain battery. Disconnect things until light goes out.

Put a new battery in the car and the battery light blinks intermittently while the car is being driven.

sounds like the alternator is acting up check all wiring connections at the alternator and battery and make sure they are clean and tight if the problem persists have the alternator checked by an electrical shop not a parts store like advance or autozone. an electrical shop can do a more detailed check

Battery light comes on intermittantly while driving I had the battery tested and alternator everything was fine???Is it safe??

You have an intermitt issue. Test battery voltage when light is on. More than likely alternator (also check the belt that drives it) or poor battery connection (must be clean and tight).

Battery and air bag warning light?

The charging problem should be fixed first, pursue the other alarms later if they still exist.
You probably have worn alternator brushes, causing the intermittent 'BAT' warning indicator.
Get the alternator re-checked,
- ensure alternator and battery grounding connections are all ok.
(The battery terminal voltage should be approx 14.5v with the engine running with a load such as headlights on or heater blower motor running).

2002 Ford Excursion battery light come on intermittently

Remove power to all aftermarket components, if you know how to use a multi-meter connect to power source inside vehicle.. Drive normal, if voltage drops below 12v while driving, it is faulty alternator. If bat light comes on and voltage is above 12v the plug on the alternator might be correded and throwing faulty light, or bad ground in gauge cluster...

Hi ...... Have a look at the belt, sounds like it's slipping and needs adjusting or fluid is leaking onto it.

1999 Isuzu Rodeo blinking lights

low voltage pulling by what your saying it sounds like your alternator is about to give up seeing that it cant disperse elec. to other units so its draining off the battery

change out the voltage regulator they didnt change your alternator they just rebuilt it or did nothing it sounds like

voltage regulator = adjusts the voltage
some are built on the alternator and is replaced at once with new alternator
others look like a little fin like an amp usually black in color this you will see bolted on the fender right or left this is a voltage regulator

somtimes you get a bad alternator in box when it can be new this is a chance chance cause now most parts are remand.
i still believe its your alternator you either of several things
got ripped off
got a bad alternator in replacement or
you got a bad voltage regulator by itself
looks like this

chances are the regulator inside the altenator is starting to fail which explains the intermittant blicking of battery light. i would imagine that you should have your altenator checked. Oreilly's will check your battery and altenator for free
