Question about 2004 Chevrolet Aveo

Chevy aveo question

I saw your response to souza50's question about his aveo, and i have similar one i thought you may be able to help with.

i have a 2004 aveo, 63000 miles, just had the timing belt fiasco that they seem to have. replaced the belts and 2 valves at 60027 miles, and afterwards i noticed some hesitation when i accelerated, but it went away once i was moving again. it only does this when the A/C is blowing, so for the most part, turning the a/c off before acceleration skips the problem.

but then, about two weeks ago, the check engine light began to flash during a sputtering bout, and then came on solid. it was on for the rest of the night, then suddenly went off while driving.

then today, i noticed the idle is pretty rough while the a/c is on. it will cough and sputter for a second or two, then act like nothing is wrong. while sitting in park, it only does this once every few minutes (maybe 3 or 4. i notice it once or maybe twice while at a stoplight). I've got an appointment to have the plugs and wires changed later this week in hopes that will fix it, but thought i'd get your opinion as well.

if you need any other info please let me know and i'll get it for you. i'd love to keep this car in good shape because i think it's going to have to last a while haha. thanks in advance

I have a 2006 chevy aveo and it is acting the same way. Took it
to autozone and found cylinder 1 and 4 misfiring.

very similar; add does not warm up to "normal" operating temp in less than 10 minutes.... mechanic indicates new coil (wires & plugs were found to be good)

Same thing, changed Coil, spark plugs, spark plug wires, worked for a day or two and then back at the same problem.

I had same problem and likely that caused by catalitic converter clogging up, that's diagnoticed by dealer on mine, and Mfr warranty is 80k miles for that part, but you may have to pay for the labor.

You have a mis-fire in the ignition system, have Kragen Auto or any chain parts store run a quick test (it's free) to get the code, it will tell you which cylinder is mis-firing.

Are there a lot of problems with chevy 2006 Aveo

Well, Gm couldn't sell any more geo metros so they renamed it the chevy metro. That didn't work too well so they renamed it the chevy aveo. Modern equivalent of the chevette. Research the Daewoo lanos, it is the same car under the skin.

My 2005 Chevy Aveo turns off after travelling at high speed. As I slow down to make the exit the engine turns off.I've had this problem for a year and had two dealers look at it without success.

For all those out there that have had problems with your Chevy Aveo Stalling, inconsistent idling, hard to start, or throttle problems, Hollywood Harv has the answer for you. Try a new Valve Idling Air Cont GM part number 93744675. You only need one and it has to be install by Chevrolet so they can place in the codes to make it work properly. Toss the old one away as most likely has so much carbon build up on the part that it stuck or struggling to function properly. It worked on mine after many different attempts at other stuff! This is a sure winner! Good luck and drive safe! Hollywood Harv

I am trying to find out what the black box with four plugs next to the engine in my 2004 Chevy Aveo is? It is similar to a distributor cap but book says Aveo does not have a distributor cap?

Does it have large wires which go to the spark plugs? If so in a way it is a distributor cap but not in the same way that the old distributor caps worked. It is an electronic distributor of the spark and is triggered electronically instead of mechanically. Less chance for problems and more precise. It also makes it easier to advance spark and do other things which will get you better gas economy. Let me know if you need anymore help.

How do you install a block heater on a chevy aveo 2006?

A block heater is installed in one of the freeze plug ports in your block. Drain your cooling system. Then drill a small hole i the center of the freeze plug and screw a self tapping screw into the hole. You can the use a claw hammer or something similar to pull the freeze plug. Then you just install the block heater in the freeze plug's place. Refill your cooling system and let it get up to full temperature checking carefully for leaks. Please rate my answer.

2005 chevy aveo with 49,000+ miles just saw a lit-up engine (outline) come on... just to the left of the digital clock. Does this mean it's due for service, or is it something seriously wrong? Thanks --

This could be as simple as a hose leak or leaving your gas cap off. Go to your local auto mechanic, (i use jiffy lube, the're cheap) and have them hook it up to the macjine and it will read the code to tell you what the problem is.
