Issue with horn and battery on a 2002 F150 SuperCrew with 5.4L V8

My battery was replaced about three months ago, last week I had issues trying to get into the truck. Everytime I tried to unlock the truck, it would lock again. I was able to enter the truck but then the engine would not start. Clicking noises, which I associated with a dead battery. Jump start and everything was fine. Then the next day I was driving and the horn turned on with out touching it. I had to tap on the horn and then it was fine. Then five days later the truck would not start. Dead battery again. Jump start and everything is fine. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

I was thinking that, but the horn issue did not seem to be caused by the starter. But it did coincide with the battery issue.

Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement...

it is either a faulty part or when the heater core was installed the core was not installed correctly..they may have not reinstalled the mounting brackets for the heater core..incorrect instalation will either cause the brackets to rub through the core or allow the core to vibrate an break

Check your ground. If you don't have a good ground even a the battery terminal that's the symtem it will give. I hope it's that easy. That's where I would start. I hope this helps and good luck.

2002 Ford F150 Supercrew - Electrical problem! Help!

dk mak r

As a retired electrical engineer this intrigues me. If you were my neighbor I would put an ammeter in series with the batteery lead to see just how much current is being drawn by the "mystery" load.

When you disconnect or hook up the battery can you see any sparks when the cable touches the battery terminal?

If the battery can get run down over night that is a significant drain.

If there is some sign of spark when you connect/disconnect the battery lead try the following.
Selectively remove a fuse in the fuse panel, (starting with the larger fuses, 15A, 20A) and then connect the battery terminal and see if you still have a spark.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh
