ignition works fine, can test starter but it's new. dash displays the word "error" on it.

  • indie1138 Aug 28, 2008

didn't change anything by un hooking the batt. still nothing when key is turned, lights, radio heater all work but no dash board and no attempt to start.

  • indie1138 Aug 29, 2008

I may have gotten a bad starter, but I already fixed a bad starter and the only problem I had was it wouldn't start. no I have a blank dash.

it's either a wireing problem or a computer problem how do I check for codes or get any info on this issue?

  • indie1138 Oct 10, 2008

Checked all fuses working, all wiring good. unable to pull codes not working. If you turn the key backwards the radio display comes on, no audio but you can here the speakers pop a little as you change stations so they are working. If you turn the key forward no radio no dash nothing but service engine light and Airbag light, so I can't pull codes.

Need something to test or check as the car is unusable.

I didn't rate this answer as it was of no help. Is this a scam?

  • indie1138 Oct 12, 2008

Checked all fuses all work fine, what do you mean by "scan tool" this is a 92 and it displays codes on the dash but with the dash dead no codes can be displayed.

Hi,

To my understanding, it is directly neither a wiring problem nor a computer problem. Technically the the computer is affected but it is not the source of the problem. The computer needs the dashboard cluster/instrumentation as part of its sensor array/feedback and therefore will not function correctly in the absence of the signals from the dashboard.

There are specialist for this kind of troubles which unfortunately is not an easy user repair. Perhaps your best bet then would be to consult or seek the services of these qualified professionals. Pls try Mr. Wizard. You can verify if your particular model is repairable by them here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

In order to to clear an error code your best bet is to hook a diagnostic scan tool to it. chances are you have an active code that won't allow a gate to open to close the circuit. if you did not have but a bad starter and now you can't get it to start. you might have had a voltage spike when you rehooked the battery and either a fuse blew or a relay went bad. check all the fuses and relays first be for going to a scan tool. also make sure all your ground cables and straps are tight. please rate this solution. thanks

wht i mean by scan too is there is a interface port that is a direct link to the computer. there is a big difference between scan tools and code readers. you can still get codes frome the computer even though the dash has no voltage feed

I have 1992 isuzu pup truck.sometimes i turn the key to crank it and there is nothing noise wize,no clicking nothing.the dash lights come on,battery is good.i turn the key another time and it cranks r

you need an ignition switch. One way to figure it out is to turn the key to engage the starter, quickly........over and over, the "catch and start" will happen with no change and suddenly, its engaged. Or, keep the key in the START position, don't let up on it and hit the steering column with your fist, or the steering wheel. It may just be shorting out.

Honda odyssey will not start clicking noise when key turned

Did you ever figure this out? I have a similar problem. There is a very light ticking sound when the key is in the on position but not being turned to start. In fact, nothing happens when turned to start now. It did at least click. The batter is good and everything electrical is working in the vehicle without dimming or anything. Jumping also did not change anything.

Check your ignition switch (located on the steering column under the dash) If this is working, you will hear an electronic switch click when you turn the key on - if you do hear it then replace your starter
