The ignition wouldn't likely cut power as soon as you switch the key to start. Also, does power return when you let the key return to the "Run" position from the "Start" position?
Did you check the connections to the starter itself? They may be grounding out. If so, try tightening them up, and as well, trace the wires to make sure no insulation has scraped or melted off of those wires.

Chevy pickup wont start

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. The starter is nothing more than a capacitor that stores enough energy to start the car however the ignition switch permits ignites the fuel to start the engine.

Crv wont start

Start by making sure the battery has at least 10.4 volts and that the cable clamps are clean and tight on the battery posts. If these are good, check the wiring to the starter. Make sure the "small" wire is pushed all the way into the connector and the "big" wire is tight against it's post. If all this is good and it still won't start, I would check to see if full battery power is going to the started on the "big" cable. If not, you need to back track the wiring to see where power stops. Possibly the alarm system is activated or the ignition switch has gone bad or the fuse for the ignition system is blown because of the old starter. Of course, start with the fuse check first.

Starter motor run on, starter has been replaced

replace the ignition switch or disconnect the starter cable from the switch and make/fit a push button for the starter motor just like the old fashioned cars like the old mini that had a push button by the handbrake or a london bus that had one on a panel above your head

Runs but only when applying pressure to the steering wheel

sound like loose wires to the ignition switch in the steering column. just remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column check the ignition switch wires.first disconnect negative battery cable before working on ignition switch. either switch wires loosen or switch could be bad.

I have a new battery and alltinator but my car still wont start

Have the starter tested! Check the cables to see if they are in good condition. Check the cable that goes to the starter. They all need tight connections.Don`t know the year, make and model. but older cars have a solenoid switch that is not on the starter.

1992 nissan pickup, manual transmission, does not start, had new battery installed, had starter cheched ( it's good) what could be the problem for not turning over?

Ignition, ignition switch, bad ground, wiring from battery to starter. Will it push start?? Also try getting a test light and see if your even getting power and ground to the starter (pos cable at starter should be hot all the time) and grounded to the frame when bolted in.

Spray some wet grafite spray in the key slot, plenty of spray and work the key back and forth.Remove the battery cables and clean the battery terminals ,and the battery post real shiney, and put them back on.Make sure you have good battery voltage also.Don`t take it for granted that the battery is good, take it off and have it checked and or charged on a good slow(2 amp) charge. Now when you are sure the battery is good ,and the connections are good, then if the starter clicks, grab the shifter and pull it up and down without moving out of park, while you hold the starter engaged. If it starts then the neutal safty switch is bad.Now if it keeps on clicking(it will be the starter clicking)replace the starter. You can lightly tap the starter with ahammer while trying to start the van,and start it,but the starter will need to be replaced. If I can help you any further, let me know.>>>
