Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
My truck had the same exact issue when about 2 years old. Took it to the dealer and the computer showed an issue with the 4WD push button switch (I have push button 4wd, no shifter). Dealer replaced the switch and it has worked fine ever since. I believe there is actually a tech bulletin with GM on this issue. Your truck is probably not under warranty anymore but if you can find the bulletin and take it to the dealer with you, they should fix the issue at no cost.
