Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

1988 Honda Accord LXI The trans won't shift into d3 or d4 without some finess with gas pedal and manual shifting. When it is warm it seems better, but still goes into a free wheeling feel. I can pull over and turn car off for a minute with it in park. I then start it up and it seems fine for a few minutes then starts not shifting into d3, d4 again. I think it is an electronic problem rather than the old clutch packs slipping and need to be rebuild. Can you help me???

I would recommend a fluid and filter change, this problem can be caused by a tiny spec of dire in the fluid passages.

My 1990 honda accord for some time has had the s(green) light blinking off and on, had it is solid S green and it seems as it won't shift gears, I don't have power like before? what happened?

The flashing s light means a transmission problem. The transmission computer is under the carpet on passenger side under where you put your feet. Pull down the carpet to see the diagnostic light. Turn on the key to count the flashes to get the code. Pulll a list of codes from the internet.
If your trans shifts properly if you manually shift it thru the gears, going from D1, D2 D3 but feels like it is starting in second when in drive at a stop, the computer is probably the issue, and can be repaired or exchanged for a good computer, lots of companies do this ,find 1 on the internet.

What is the difference between d3 and d4 on gear shift. It has sport on it also.

Stands for drive3 and drive4, if your not hauling any thing, used d4, will give you better gas mileage, it's like an overdrive.

My 92 accord auto trans has no acceleration in d4 or d3 but if i put it in 1gear or 2 gear it has normal pickup and shifts normal. What could it be! help

Check if your transmission computer located in the passenger kick panel under carpet. It should say AT Control Unit. Open the unit and look for burned resistors or capacitors. If you noticed a burn spot, replace...if not its better to take it to the Honda dealership and get a diagnostic.

if you drive the car with the shifter in d1 and while driving down the road move the shifter to up shift the foward gears individually if the rpms drop every time you up shift you know your trans shifted if this allows you to go through all gears you have an ecu problem if the car still doesnt shift you have a trans problem and would need to take the car to a transmission shop

Gear Position light D4 is always flashing irrespective of gear.

This issue is caused by a transmission fault or malfunction, most likely a shift solenoid in the trans has failed or the trans control module has a problem, the trans can be tested for codes that will show what circuit or component of the trans controls is causing the light to stay blinking, have it tested.
