There are a few thing's that could make it shut down while driving !
The ASD relay , auto shut down relay, .crankshaft position sensor ,ignition module . any engine data sensor if on the 5volt reference circuit ! Does it start right back up ? When does it do this ,when the engine is fully warmed up ? Is the check engine light on ?
This sounds similar to my problem yesterday, where the lights were blinking on and off and the gauges going up and doing like crazy. It was the battery has lost most of its charge (only had 230CCA out of the expected 800).
Fortunately, the battery was still under warranty.
Some problems with the ignition switches are pretty common with GM cars and trucks. With the key in the 'on' position, jiggle the key around and see if you get some erratic gauge operation or a shut-down.
The top on my 2006 crossfire limited will not go down,I get a slow beep and flashing light. also when I shut car off and let set the battery will discharge. This started when I put something in the trunk and knocked the divider loose, then tried to put the top down, I did get it down then would not go up. after driving a consideral distance home it went right up like nothing wrong, but now will not operate at all.
Back at it again right. Hey that black cable that you jiggled ( i like that work jiggle) must be the cause of your problem. Make sure that the cable is not loose or anything like that. I am most certain that is you check the cable you'll see the its loose. I really hope you finally get to drive your car without worrying about your key not wanting to come of the ignition. That sucks by the way. Let me know if this works Chelsea.
my mom has a 99 durango that did the same thing it would just stop running and would turn over but wouldnt start let it sit for a while then it would start right up it turned out to be the brain of the car the ecu dont know if this will help but its worth a shot
