Center Diff Auto Button

I own a Toyota L Touring Wagon. It's a 4wd. I've had no problem with it except that I think I should be getting more mpg form it. My question is about a button. It has a C. Diff Auto button on the right side of the steering wheel of the Dash. What does this button do?

Thx Keemo 6. But the car is a full time 4 Wheel Drive. Are you sure that this is the all wheel drive option button?

The button is to lock the central diff to distribute the power 50/50 front to rear when in slippery conditions,
Normally with button off the drive system favours the front wheels.

That is a all wheel drive option button. however most fuel economy problems are related to poor maintenance practices. to boost fuel economy make sure you have regular tune ups have the fluids at proper levels have the filters changed ie(fuel, oil, and transmission).generally this should help your engine perform better.

My nm model pajero exceed will go into 4 wheel drive, but will not disengage.any ideas

Hi Jim,
this is rather common. The front axle diff will have a hard time disengaging if the gears are under load. You need a load change (get of the acc pedal, move steering a bit left right, briefly go to neutral on the auto transmission, then back to drive). This will help to get the front diff loose again. Sometimes it really takes some time to disengage! Mostly the problem is gone when you stop the car, switch off engine, release brake, then start again and drive - and voila- back to 2WD. On hard surfaces the transmission can go into a wind-up state (because of different wheel speed when cornering), esp the center diff (4WD and center diff locked) then is under such load that the car virtually stops driving or you can hear crackling noises and tyre slip on tarmac!

My 94 celica st coup five speed very low torque on take off and up small hills. And is an average of 25 mpg right?

Your mpg is what it is. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. As for the low power, replace the EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) valve and you'll have the power expected form the engine.

2001 Toyota sequioa won't engage 4wd

For your four wheel drive to engage, the front diff actuator has to go into 4wd and then sends confirmation to 4wd ecu which in turn engages ur transfer case (center lock) If frame was just replaced, i check the connector on top of your front diff and make sure its plugged in as this would be a definite cause. Let me know how you go.

My 00 toyota land cruiser is stuck in 4wd the light indicating 4wd is not on , when i move the 4wd gear stick it moves perfect but the jeep is still in 4wd , it could have something to do with to do with...

Yes!! probably the front diff actuator is sticking , the wire that command the disengagement is not making contact properly, or the actuator itself is bad, also if you replace the tires with a size different from the manufactures that can create an engagement problem.

Sometimes after decelerating quickly or on steep inclines my Toyota touring wagon is on the verge of stalling. What can be the oroblem

Is this condition usually when the tank is low?? If so,it could be that the "pick-up" in the tank is not low enough to get to the gas when you are on a hill or a fast stop.

I just bought a RAV4 in France. Owners manual is

This is a manual center differential lock button for 4WD models.
When you push this button, it manually locks the front and rear axles. An amber C DIFF LOCK light should appear on the dash board when engaged.
Push it again and it will disengage. It may take a few seconds to disengage, and a beeping will be heard until the diff is unlocked.

The center differential lock is only meant to be used in emergency situations. Driving with it engaged at all times can damage your differential.

Where does diff lock display come on dash or button

diff lock displays on dash and is opperated by a dial to the left of the steering column. the center diff lock is operated by a button in the center dash and locks your center differential, making your front and rear driveshafts turn at the same speed. the front and rear differentials lock either your front or rear or both differentials making each wheel on the same axle turn at the same speed. all of these features are for increased traction in off road and wet conditions and situations

Thinking about buying a 1986 Toyota Tersel

I have known the tercel to go easily 250K. If the price is right it is a no brainer. Usually the rust wins before engine failure. Those late model 80's Tercels consistently got over 35mpg.

Please leave me good feedback if you think this helped.

I need the front left drive shaft for my 1998 Toyota L Touring wagon. Where can I get one?

Try a salvage yard of foreign vehicles first. Then a parts supply store. And last, try the dealer.
