2000 nissan maxima, had 6 ingnition coils and all spark plugs changed at Nissan because they said they were bad, also had them change the MAF, at a cost of $1200.00. Car ran fine for 7 weeks and the same problem came back. running bad, loud, wanting to stall, not starting right away. Nisan said bring it back. they said 1 ignition coil was bad, they replaced it and then said that I needed a catalytic converter at an estimate of $1,000.00. They replaced the coil for free and I took it to another garage close to home to let them check it out and they replaced the converter and the 02 sensor. Car is acting up again in less than 1 week, same symptoms as before. Anyone know what is going on with my car? Too much money spent, Nissan guys are just salesman, lying to you about what your car needs fixed. Any honest guys out there? Help!!

I should have added a few things. The check engine light bulb is burned out. Also the slip and TCS light was on. When I had it at nissan the second time the slip and TCS light miraculuosly disappeared and never came on again and they said that they did not fix it.

Is the check engine light on? does it happen all the time? cold hot rainy damp sunny? Lets figure it out togther.

  • Anonymous Jul 16, 2011

First of all, my check engine light bulb is burnt out. Nissan said that it would take 3 hours to pull out the dash board to change the light bulb. That would be almost $300.00 to change a light bulb. I did not have that done yet and don't know if I ever will at that cost. So I took the car to Nissan because of it running crappy and the rest is what I posted earlier. To answer your questions...... This happens all the time. It sounds like the engine is running loud. Today it took longer to start and I took it to the garage that put the converter in and he put it on the diagnostic machine and no codes came up. Why is it acting the same as before but no codes are coming up? Thanks

2000 Maxima runs rough and is misfiring on cylinder 6

hi , if you are sure the no. 6 cylinder is misfire then change the ignition coil if you are sure but if you are going to buy a new coil better buy all 6 coils and it will last longer if not after no.6 then no.5 or 4,3, until you change all of it .....for rough runs pls flush / change ATF every 20,000 km and change engine oil every 5,000 km , change the exhaust (o2) sensor it make a lot of different , resetting your throttle sensor and speed sensor , all the above must change it with nissan oem part and it not that expensive too.

I have a 2005 Maxima and my BF ran it out of gas and sine then my car starts but wont stay unningeven after adding fuel. We have changed the MAF sensor also all 6 spark plugs. It still doesnt want to

Change the fuel filter then see if it will start. If it doesn't the you will need to check the fuel pressure if its not within the specs (CHILTON AUTO MANUAL) then replace the fuel pump.

Nissan Maxima 2000 Year model A33 3 Litre 55000KM Sometimes when starting hot or cold, engine runs rough as though miss fireing on 1 or 2 cylinders, after a few revs it settles to normal. Also...

most likley a ignition coil is failing, is unfortunatly common for the A33 maxima. these engine have 6 coils, one for each cylinder. the only way to work out which of the 6 is the faulty one is to remove the little cover over the front bank of spark plugs, has 4 allen key bolts, then you can see the front 3 coils and the rear 3 are inbetween the manifold pipes. each coil wiring will have a button/leaver on the connectors (i think they are green) and if you push this in will release connector.
when the engine is missfireing unplug one coil at a time then reconnect after. if the engine runs worse that coil is working. if you unplug 1 that makes no change, that is the the one thats not working. replace the coil and the spark plug.
do not worrry, there is only 12volts at these connectors, not spark plug voltage

How to change spark plugs on the v6 Nissan 2000 Maxima?

For the 3 spark plugs in front:
1. You would have to remove the plastic protective cover (this cover is silver&red w/ the words "nissan and v6 3000")
2. unplug connector and remove coil (DO NOT mix up the coils, keep the same coils on the same cylinder)
3. Remove spark plug

Rear 3 plugs: located on the rear of the intake (the black pipes atop the engine). there are 3 openings at the rear of the black intake pipes, each opening has a coil mounted.
1. Unplug coil connector and remove coil
2. remove spark plug (you'll need a long extension)
***Installation is reverse, be sure not to over tighten the plugs!! Use anti-seize compound on all the new plugs threading. Hopefully this helps!!

Where is coolant temp sensor and knock sensor on 95 nissan maxima

Mine usually stalled coming out the driveway. I went thru replacement of 6 coils and plugs with almost no improvement on my 2000 maxima. Ultimately the mass air flow sensor was replaced. All the engine codes from check engine light would make you think the engine needs overhaul, due to the nature of resultant bad engine performance. You can buy maf sensor $100 online. 5 minutes to install it. I tried cleaning it, but it made no difference until I replaced it. After that it was like 50 more horsepower.
