Engine takes a long time to start, 3 or 4 attempts. When switching on ignition warning lights turn off after a few seconds except oil and battery lights. Is this indicating a fault?

Maybe not.
Your warning lights go thru a test when you turn the key on so most would go off after a few seconds.
The delay to start could be a weak fuel pump which is allowing fuel pressure to drain back into the tank.

My second tank on my f150 isn't working, what can it be?

It is likely the fuel pump in the tank has failed, switch it over and have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to see if you have pressure.

Car wants to start but acts like it isn't getting fuel.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check the fuel pressure to see if it is getting gas. You can check it from the fuel line. You can try hitting the gas tank a few times and then try starting it. If it is the fuel pump, this may cause it to activate and work. You can check to see if there is fuel coming to the fuel filter or going through the filter. Make sure the filter isn't clogged up. You can always use starter fluid or a little gas in the intake. If it starts for a second or two, you probably have a fuel issue. If it only cranks, you may have an issue with the ignition system, such as a cam sensor, bad plugs or wires, distributor, crank sensor. If your computer has picked up on anything, your check engine light will be on. You can get specific codes from your computer that explain what part is not working. You have to have an OBDII scanner though. You need fuel, air, and fire to start a vehicle. Try hitting the gas tank first to see if it will start. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, then the pump is probably working. If not, the pump is probably not working. You need to test for fuel and spark. Hit the tank and let me knoe if it starts.

Fuel pump not turning on. Won't fire but will turn over. swapped out relay, still not fire.

Try banging on the fuel tank, and then quickly try to start it, if it starts your fuel pump is almost dead and will need replaced soon.
If it doesn't start, test for power at the wiring connector on top of the fuel tank. This test requires 2 people, because the fuel pump is only powered for a few seconds when the engine isn't running. If you have power, then the problem is in the fuel pump (completely failed or bad wiring connection on the pump/inside the sending unit)

1998 landcruiser won't run on main tank but will run on sub tank

It could be either the switch is broken, pop it out and look for shorts or anything. The other thing that comes to mind is checking the fuel filter and fuel pump or the solenoid that switch between the tanks.

It appears the vehicle is not getting any fuel. where is the fuel pump fuse and or the cut off switch.? the tank selector seems to b a problem as well, i think one of the tanks are bad... where can the...

you've got dual tanks? the selector switch may be bad,on the dash., check those 1st. remove the panel that switches the tank to tank, make sure that the connections good. switch to main tank and make sure that fuels in the main tank.if you have fuel in main tank, thats good. but keep in mind that you also have an electric fuel pump, located just under the driverside door frame.when you turn your key to 'on' position,do you hear that electric fuel pump humming for 10 to 15 seconds? been there and done that before. because you have 2 tanks it takes alot of fuel pressure to power your engine. when you turn your keyswitch 'on' do you hear the fuel pump humming? if not, then you can check the main fuse box under the hood. look for a square black box, usually on driverside fenderwell under the hood. lift cover off and check for blown fuses or bad relays. under the fuse cover you should see locations of relays and fuse locations. the #1problem{fuel related} with your year truck is a bad electric fuel pump. take my advice and replace the pump with the replacement pump recommended by advance auto,or nappa auto parts. or else dealer parts. autozone parts come from mexico[mostly] i hate to promote anyone autoparts, but learn by my own hard work replacing bad parts and by whats warranty and whats not.thank you for choosing and feel free to choose your own parts store! i do however, promote!!!!

Your car is fuel injected and has a fuel pressure regulator valve that allows fuel to return to the tank, one sure sign that the valve is bad is that it allows all the fuel pressure to return to the tank so you must crank and crank which in truth is not what gets it going. You attempting to start it multiple times is turning the fuel pump on for @ 30 seconds. Untill you have the valve tested try turning the key to on, when the pump stops running (whirring or light buzzing sound) turn the key off and back on again. After a few times the pressure should be built up enough to start the engine.

Was wondering if you had any luck with yours and could enlighten me. Thanks
