Question about Toyota Land Cruiser

1 Answer

My 80 series landcruiser is having trouble with the duel fuel tanks, it wont pump the petrol from the secondary tank to the primary tank, im unsure if it is the sensor in the primary tank, or the sensor in the secondary tank or the sensor between the tanks, or even the computer it self. ive tried a few things like testing the wires and such, but i can not seem to fix the problem. thank you for any ideas you may reply with.

The fuel pumps work, we can manually hook them up to pump, but when the cruiser is left to do it on its own it wont operate properlly, so we know it works, but the is one thing just bugging out the whole system. my boyfriend has rang a few auto elecs and tried wat they said but to no avail. he asked about in stalling a manual switch in the dash to pump the feul over with out help from the sensors but he has been told that might be a bit dangerous.

    Thanx for any help given

I didn't make the Petrol station so my 80 series run out of fuel. Now it won't idle and stay running, we have checked the fuel lines, tank and all good. Any ideas??

Probably killed the fuel pump. Older pumps don't like running out of fuel. Hit the bottom of the tank where you think the pump is. If it runs better, replace the pump.

HOW I CAN KNOW WHICH PUMP GOES ON MY SATURN VUE PRIMARY OR SECONDARY IS 3.0 ENGINE

The primary fuel pump is located in the left side of the tank. If you fill the tank up and it still does not start then it is the primary tank. Problem is that now you will have to drop the tank with a full tank of gas. The primary pump is used to pump the fuel to the fuel rail, while the secondary pump is used to pump fuel from the right side of the tank to the left side. I usually replace both primary and secondary so I don't have to pull the tank again if the secondary is also bad.

Are you sure you have a fuel pump problem? What are your symptoms?

Just a thought.I don't think the tanks transfer fuel. They draw the fuel from one tank or the other.I may be wrong, but have a look.Hope this helps

Broken sub tank switch in 80 series toyota landcruiser

Replace it. Most switches are mounted to plastic snap clips than can be removed with a simple Flathead screwdriver.A $5 plastic pry tool set is the best, but a butter knife or two works wonders sometimes.

I have a bmw 316i i have 30 to 40 miles worth of petrol inside the petrol tank and the car rev metre goes up and down and cars engine shuts down completely and it wont start untill it has quarter of a tank...

That sounds like the petrol pickup pipe in the tank has an air leak and when the fuel is dropping down below the leak it is sucking in more air than petrol.
The most likely cause of that is either the gauge sender untit or the fuel pump itself leaking (if the fuel pump on that car is inside the tank).

Front fuel tank will not work

You have duel tanks with a fuel pump in each tank. You also have a fuel pump on the frame rail after the "tank selector". This device only holds a fuel filter that protects the main fuel pump. When you select front or rear tank on the dash, you are selecting which in tank fuel pump will operate. You can check the in tank fuel pump by listening for it to "humm" when the key is turned on..The in tank pumps only feed the main pump and cannot run the engine on their own. Hope this helps
