Hi i have a 1997 monte carlo. i live in ohio so i need to get it echecked. the techs there wont check it becuase the check engine light will not come on at start up. i then went to autozone to see if the could give me a read out on the codes and they said if the light is not come on it wont give a code? why is this and how do i fix this?

If the CHECK ENGINE light come on, the PCM (computer car) have stored a fault code there; I suggest scanned this and note what fault code is there. Sometimes Autozone or AutoShop make this reader with OBD tools for free.

Hello: WHEN IT DOESN'T START THAT IS THE TIME YOU NEED TO DIAGNOISE THE PROBLEM. A INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE NEEDS THREE THINGS TO RUN- AIR, FUEL AND SPARK. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE. CHECK FOR SPARK TO THE SPARKPLUGS. IT COULD BE THE ENGINE COMPUTER , THE IGNITION MODULE. IT COULD BE THE CRANK SENSOR. WITHOUT HANDS ON DIAGNOSIS I WOULD BE GUESSING.

change spark plugs and wires and use higher octane fuel.

Try and reset it by getting in car make sure every thing is off, close door's turn key to on and way about 10 mins or till light stop's flashing, then turn key to off and start engine.

p0341 on a scanner means something is wromg with the camshaft position sensor have it checked
