There is no marks. Ford has a two piece special tool for lining up the cams and the crank. One tool slides in the back of the cams and the other is a peg that is put into a hole on the side of the block that allows the crank to turn until it hits the flat on a weight of the crank.Crank peg# 303-574 and the cam tool # 303-465. You can use these to order them from Rotunda or OTC. Good Luck. PS: these tools are used because the cam sprockets are no longer keyed in position. The procedure is not any harder than the other style, but I suggest not trying it without the tools.

2 litre ford timing belt diagram 2000 escort zx2 (dohc) .is belt failure always catastrophic

This is a non-interference engine. Anyone saying anything different is using an old book. Some Ford dealers might even tell you it is interference. There are reliefs cut into the top of the pistons to clear the valves if the belt breaks. There is a how-to posted here and on Team ZX2 .com

Need 2001 ford escort zx2 DOHC engine information, belt diagrams

The tensioner is between the a/c compressor and crank pulley, below the power steering pump. Use a 13 mm wrench to 'tighten' the bolt in the center of the pulley and it'll move to release tension off the belt.

Need diagram for replacing scerpentine belt in 99 ford escort zx2

go to gates.com and click the link on the left that says Part Locator & Interchange, put in your car info then look down the page and click the camera next to the serpintine belt. These belts are not usually hard to change, the tensioner pulley should have a 3/8" square drive hole in it to release the tension, I always start at the crankshaft and loop around leaving the tensioner for last, hope this helps, let me know

Timing belt diagram for 2001 ford escort zx2 dohc

cam shaft timing marks on back of cams ,two slots ,use a flat piece of metal to align .remove no1 spark plug and drop long thin screwdriver down it to bring piston just below tdc, then align cams so both cams are on the rock (valves closed) with knob on back cam aligning with pick up sensor left side between lobes.then bring piston up to tdc and fit belt.turn engine over twice with socket on bottom pulley to make sure no valves clear pistons.Remember to remove flat edge from back of cams i didnt last time and bent my home made tool

Serpentine belt replacement

2.0L Engines
See Figures 11, 12 and 13
The accessory drive belt for 2.0L engines has no provision for manual belt adjustment, since these engines use an automatic belt tensioner. Drive belt slack is taken up by the automatic tensioner.
Movement of the automatic tensioner assembly during engine operation is not a sign of a malfunctioning tensioner. This movement is the tensioner self-adjusting and is required to maintain constant belt tension.
The belt tensioner has a belt length indicator. If the indicator marks are not between the MIN and MAX marks, the belt must be replaced.
