1987 300 e hard to star have to push gas pedal or hold dawn to get it to star .

Look under the hood. you should find a part under there with two metal thin lines connected to it so that when you push the gas pedal, that part moves up, when released, it should go back down, have someone press the gas pedal and look for it right on top of the engine. is there something blocking it? wiring harness, etc.?

You will need to open the hood and have someone watch the throttle as you push the gas pedal, see if the throttle arm moves as you push on the pedal, this may be due to a bad cable or it may be off its holding bracket or loose. start with this test.

If you have this problem only when you fill your tank I would check the fuel filter first. The fuel pump will also give you problems after filling the tank due to the extra load.

It is a magnet. Not really, it is the rubber bumper that stops the gas pedal from coming up too far, it gets sticky and holds the pedal, you have to stomp on it to free it and then it is ok for a while, I sprayed mine with wd40 a few times, then finally put a glob of grease on there to stop it from sticking.

sounds like your brakes are taking too long to disengage. Your problem may not be your gas pedal. If your brakes are sticking it could be holding your acceleration back just a bit until the car gets moving again.

change the fuel filter. when gas gets low in the tank like that it starts to pull up trash from the bottom of the tank

You have to change the Fuel filter on your car. Its probably do for one anyways so change that fuel filter and that should solve your problems.
