I have a jaguar s type 2003 model 2.5ltre which constantly keeps sounding when at rest like a kettle boiling water. i have had it serviced by a jaguar main dealer 6months ago and had to return it back on 6 occasions with the same problem. i am still hearing the noise which i now am discovering that an oil is leaking comming from behind the top end of the engine rocker cover dripping onto the heat manifold sheild, any ideas where this can be traced from

Valve covers (or Rocker covers) are notorious for oil leaks on many types of cars. (Dont know yours) BUT If it is hot enough to boil oil, you have a serious FIRE Hazard ! That could easily burst into flame any time.

Are you sure its not water seeping out of the head gasket? That would readily sizzle on the heat shield and constantly sound like boiling water. Makes more sense to me.

What type of Jag dealer would miss this? Six times ! I would try a reputable local mechanic.
good luck

Followup... I have had oil drip on th heat shield before, and the smoke being sucked into the cabin was choking. Do you have a strong smell of smoke in car?

COLT CLUB CAB 2.8TDI 2003 & 2008 MODELS. AFTER SERVICING 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHTS ON DASH ARE ILLUMINATED & KEEP FLASHING. 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS WORKING HOWEVER.

That is a coolant recovery tank not an excess water bottle. You either have air trapped in the cooling system because you failed to purge the air correctly or you have a leaking engine head gasket.

My toyota 4runner is overheating but i have no water leak and yet my radiator is losing water

SOUND LIKE HEAD GASKET LEAK.CHECK ENGINE OIL FOR SIGNS ANTIFREEZE CONTAMINATION..OIL WILL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.IF USING WATER IT EVAPORATES AT 212 DEGREES. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CAN CLIMB UP TO 220 DEGREES.IF OIL IN CRANK CASE LOOKS GOOD.ADD 50/50 WATER AND ANTIFREEZE. ANTIFREEZE WILL RAISE BOILING POINT TO KEEP COOLANT FROM EVAPORATING.SEE IF YOU LOSING WATER ITS BOILING AWAY LIKE WATER IN A TEA KETTLE.

I purchased very similar here in the UK £4800 (trade) two years ago, only problem so far has been O2 sensor failure which I replaced myself but was still fairly expensive. Other than that car has been good. Check for Jag service history
