My step daughter has the same kind of car, a 97 escort 2.0 sohc. I checked the timing belt and the timing gears, though the top gear, the camshaft, is about a degree more to the right when the piston is at top dead center, while the bottom gear, the crankshaft, is at 12 oclock, this should not stop the car from starting right? When the car died on her, radiator fluid went everywhere. The car does sound like it wants to turn over although I am not sure if it always sounded strange when you turned it over before it died. It does sound as if something is wrong, besides it not starting, it does sound as if it can almost start though. Trying to debrief a 21 yr old girl about how her car sounded before when it did run and what exactly happened when it died is more frustrating then working on the car itself.

While looking at the dash, watch the Check engine light while you crank it. The light should go out. If not, you are missing the crank signal. Does the engine sound different when it turns over since the no start? It could be a broken timing belt. A quick check for this is to have an assistant crank the engine while you look through the oil fill cap at the camshaft to see if it is turning. If it is not ,the belt broke. If this doesn't get it,text me back. Also include the engine size and any codes if you can pull them. Good Luck.

Crown vic 2000 wont crank ? battery, alternator, starter, starter relay all good ?

The problem is in the wiring harness, yes the battery and starter is good, the harness you repaired is the PRNDL. for the starter to start it need a path when the vehicle is Park or Nuetral, there the path is closed some how by Park and Nuetral the path is open.Thats why there is a no start.when in park or nuetral the path is closed.

Ford focus won't turn over ,was fine this morning parked up now won't start getting whinning sound from side of engine

If the temperature is low, then the engine might have struck up. You need to give heat and then try starting. If you still face the problem, then open the front and check if any wires have been cut off or else call or an mechanic to solve the problem,

Thanks

My 1993 Buick Park Avenue just Clicks once when you turn the key on starter won't engage the battery is fine

Sounds like a bad starter or a bad battery cable connection to me. If you are certain that tyour battery is in good condition and fully charged, your battery cables are clean and tight and are making good connection on BOTH ends, replace the starter.

Car won't start not the battery

Test the neutral safety switch but doing the following steps.

1)foot on brake
2)turn key to on position
3)shift lever to neutral (N)
4)start the engine
5)shift the lever to Park (P)

If the engine can start at N and not at park then it's the neutral safety switch.
