How can I eradicate the air pressure from the fuel pump? Everyday i pump to release the pressure before I start the engine and if I neglect the engine goes wild..

  • engineer_ram Jul 13, 2011

i've already check that there's no hose leakage of crude supply, i've already drained the tank and changed pt pump as well, i mean air on the fuel filter /pt pump. every morning before i start i use to release first the air from pt pump if not, it will still start but the engine gets idled wild for quite sometime before it will run smoothly.

Quesrion not very clear. Is it air in the system or pressurised air? You can post further clarification to my mail box for me to respond earlier. I check my mail more frequently than this site.

2005 chevy colorado fuel pressure. Increases +5 when started, drops 2 with throttle snap, no change at high idle. Is this normal?

To some extent the fuel pressure will vary depending on the depression inside the intake manifold. The fuel pressure regulator is set to produce a small range of pressures. At high manifold depression the lower pressure will be available and at low depression (throttle wide open) the fuel pressure will be at the highest.

This is the way the fuel/air mixture is richened so the engine will accelerate smoothly.

How do you bleed a diesel pump jeep Cherokee turbo diesel 3.1 5 cylinder 2001

we dont have this engine here, USA.
but i have the WG jeep book,
starting page 12 , chapter 14

FUEL INJECTION PUMP BLEEDING
(1) If the fuel injection pump has been replaced,
air should be bled at the overflow valve before
attempting to start engine.
(a) Loosen the overflow valve (Fig. 18) at the
rear of the injection pump.
(b) Place a towel below the valve.
WARNING: WHEN CRANKING THE ENGINE TO
BLEED AIR FROM THE INJECTION PUMP, THE
ENGINE MAY START. PLACE THE TRANSMISSION
IN NEUTRAL OR PARK AND SET PARKING BRAKE
BEFORE ENGAGING THE STARTER MOTOR.
CAUTION: Do not engage the starter motor for
more than 30 seconds at a time. Allow 2 minutes
between cranking intervals.
(2) Crank the engine for 30 seconds at a time to
allow air trapped in the injection pump to vent out
the fuel injector drain tubes. Continue this procedure
until the engine starts. Observe the previous WARNING
and CAUTION.
(3) Tighten overflow valve.
HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL LINE BLEEDING
WARNING: THE INJECTION PUMP SUPPLIES HIGH-
-PRESSURE FUEL OF APPROXIMATELY 45,000 KPA
(6,526 PSI) TO EACH INDIVIDUAL INJECTOR
THROUGH THE HIGH-PRESSURE LINES. FUEL
UNDER THIS AMOUNT OF PRESSURE CAN PENETRATE
THE SKIN AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.
WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES AND ADEQUATE PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING AND AVOID CONTACT WITH
FUEL SPRAY WHEN BLEEDING HIGH-PRESSURE
FUEL LINES.
WARNING: DO NOT BLEED AIR FROM THE FUEL
SYSTEM OF A HOT ENGINE. DO NOT ALLOW FUEL
TO SPRAY ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHEN
BLEEDING AIR FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM.
Bleed air from one injector at time.
(1) Loosen the high-pressure fuel line fitting at
the injector (Fig. 19).
(2) Crank the engine until all air has been bled
from the line. Do not operate the starter motor
for longer than 30 seconds. Wait 2 minutes
between cranking intervals.
(3) Start the engine and bleed one injector at a
time until the engine runs smoothly.

My 98 Mercury is turning over but won't start what

To make an engine run you need 3 things.... Fuel, air and electricity. All those systems and their associated components can cause the engine not to start if one of then malfunctions. Look for plugged fuel filters, a bad fuel pump. Then make sure there is a spark present at the spark plugs. If the air filter has been neglected for a long time, it will usually run but will hard start and have really crappy fuel mileage.

Car wont run if u dWon't start up everyday even though nothing wrong with battery.

have pressure test done on the fuel manifold and look for a faulty pressure regulator that is allowing the fuel to drain back and allowing air into the manifold. It will also check for pump and filter faults.

I need to find the fuel pressure release valve on the 1997 suburban 5.7 l v8

i am not sure where the release valve is, but if you are trying to release the fuel pressure an easy way of doing it is to pull the fuel pump relay and start the car. the pump relay is in the electrical box under the hood and should be clearly marked. the engine will probably start and run for just a short peroid until the fuel is burned off, if it does not start you know there is no fuel pressure.

Ran out of gas.. that nite below feezin temps. car froze. allowed car to thaw. added gas... wont start. no oil leak. no water in oil. was pushed out of road wen car ran out of gas.. is there a fuel reset...

No ressting to do. You need to remove all air from the fuel lines. Running out of gas in any fuel injected vehicle is a big no no for it is so expensive to get back running right. Add 5 gallons of fuel to get good priming pressure first of all
Turn the ignition key on for 5 secondes and turn it off for ten secocds. Do this step 5 time to bring up fuel pressure to the engine
Next try and start it
If it does not start release the air pressurized in the fuel line at the fuel rail above the engine. It looks like a tire air fill valve. Use a rag to catch the gas that spews out as you bleed the air out
Now turn the igition key on and off again for 5 times as stated above and proceed to start the engine once more
Good luck

Honda Civic Coupe. Year 2000 1.6. How can I depressurize the fuel system easily to change the fuel filter situated in the engine compartment.

Hi,

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the fuel system pressure release step. Injury and other damage can result!
Safety Step! Relieving Fuel System Pressure
· allow engine to cool
· relieve fuel system pressure
· put on your eye protection
Before you begin the job of replacing your fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do this before you attempt to change the fuel filter.
To release the pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse, find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your fuel filter.
Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter.
If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!

Best regards.

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Do not reconnect the fuel pump harness.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely on jackstands.
  4. Clamp the middle portion of the hose connecting the fuel tank pipe and the pump to prevent fuel from flowing out of the tank when unfastened.
  5. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the hose.
  6. Remove the three pump bracket mounting bolts and remove the pump together with the pump damper.

To install:
  1. Install the fuel pump and damper, and tighten the bolts securely.
  2. Install the hose and tighten the clamp screw to 9-13 inch lbs. (1.0-1.5 Nm).
  3. Install the pump bracket in position to the vehicle body and secure it with the bolts.

Take care to position the rubber cushion properly.
  1. Connect the pump harness.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable and test the fuel pump for proper operation.
  3. Check for fuel leaks.

TESTING

  1. Turn the ignition ON and listen for the fuel pump to make a growling sound. Turn the ignition OFF .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the pump harness and crank the engine for 5 seconds or more. If the engine starts, allow it to run until it stops. Turn the ignition OFF and install the fuel pump connector.
  3. Disconnect the fuel hose at the fuel pump.
  4. Connect a gauge in-line using a T-fitting.
  5. Start the engine and measure the fuel pressure. If the fuel pressure is not 36-50 psi (248-344 kPa), replace the pump.
  6. Release the fuel system pressure and remove the gauge.

2002 sebring where is the fuel pressure regulator located?

The fuel system is under a constant pressure, even with engine off. before servicing the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator, the fuel system pressure must be released.
CAUTION The fuel system is under pressure when the engine is running, 58 psi, plus or minus 5 psi. (400 kPa plus or minus 34 kPa). The fuel pump module contains a check valve to maintain some fuel pressure even when the engine is not operating. This will help to start the engine. Before servicing the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator, the fuel system pressure must be released.

Hope this help.
