Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
What can I do to get it to stay at an even idle when I start it? I'm afraid it will stall when I stop. So far it hasn't but sounds like it will.
Well, First, Check for any vacuum leaks, these will cause a low Idle due to a "lean" fuel/air mixture condition.
What is the engine size? If you have the V-6 take off the big air intake hose from the engine side, turn off the engine and block the throttle wide open with a tick or a brick. The plate inside the throttle body will be wide open , Use a good carberator cleaner and a stiff tooth brush to clean every partical of built up carbon from BOTH sides of the plate and also spray all around the throttle body inside where the plate is try to reach inside with the tooth brush as far as you can and scrub all carbon build up Spray down good with the carb cleaner. Take the block from the Throttle and replace the hose make sure there are no holes and the hose is properly installed and tight car will start hard be hard to start but it will start go easy on the gas after it starts and let it run a bit at idle
