If you have a trailer plug installed trace the wires to see if there is a bare spot or broken wire.If no plug then you need to check for bare wire or broken wire from tail lamp assemblys to where the wire plugs into main wireing harness.

I'd get your brakes checked out. Check for abs trouble codes. I know some of the national brand auto stores will check po codes for free, not sure about abs codes?

That sounds dangerous to me, get it checked out. Till you get it fixed, set your parking brake when you stop, that should help.

1998 Dodge Dakota blinkers stop working changed flasher now brake lights, blinkers, and hazard lights will not work.

Follow the flasher wiring to fuse box and locate the fusible link. Looks just like the wire but softer exterior and it's a fuse able wire that can break down. Should be along the driver fender under hood.

I own a 2001 dodge dakota 4x4, my brake lights wont work, I have park lights, turn signals, back up lights, even 4 way flashers, I replaced the brake unit on the brake pedal, and checked all fuses, they...

Hi,

When you say you checked the fuse, was this just a visual check....or did you try replacing the fuse the a new one? Sometimes a visual check doesn't show minute breaks in the fuse wire, which gives a false appearance that the fuse is fine.

When the fuse is ok, this problem normally relates to the brake switch (mounted to the brake pedal). When this switch is replaced, you should always use a multimeter and check the switch is operating correctly when touching the brake pedal.

If the switch is ok, then suspect a faulty relay (if applicable to the Dakota).

Cheers,

The fuse for the brake lights also powers the ABS control module. Check the brake light fuse.

Brake lights don't work, fuse is good, middle brake light works

Very popular problem for this vehicle. Check for power at the brakelight switch. If you have power, depress the pedal and make sure the power is transfered to the next terminal. The switch is very affordabl and quite simple to exchange. Good luck, Dana

20 amp fuse for brake lights continually blows out

you have a short in the wiring to your brake circuit.check the pedal switch,it could be cracked and shorting out.those switches are known for having the tail lights stay on until you hit it a few times.the other thing to check is the light assemblies.there may be enough corrosion to cause a short.instead of a fuse, wire a bulb across an open fuse.when the short shows up the bulb will light.use a 25 watt bulb.
